Dear editor: The Liberal government insulted the victims of the Pakistani earthquake—and every Canadian—when it initially offered the paltry sum of $300,000 for relief efforts. Then, reacting to nationwide outrage, they tried to save face and votes in major multicultural ridings by increasing that aid package to a more respectable […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mr. Editor: Do politicians lie to the public? With the exception of four of the prime ministers of Canada, all were/are lawyers and, generally, lawyers and politicians get a bad wrap in the public’s eye. Those who are somewhat familiar with the legal system know that it is based […]
Dear sir: On Thursday, Sept. 29, 130 students from across Rainy River District met at Crossroads School in Devlin to play chess. It was an amazing, wonderful day. The most common comment from parents, teachers, and principals who dropped in was “This is amazing. I had no idea chess was […]
Dear sir: Does the community of Fort Frances still require Meals on Wheels? Do families who have benefitted from Meals on Wheels feel this is a worthwhile program that should be continued in our community? These are questions that continue to be asked by the Meals on Wheels committee members […]
Dear sir: My husband and I are very concerned about the problems facing the forest industry. We very often think we are the “forgotten people” out here in Northwestern Ontario. We chose to live here in this beautiful part of the country, but it seems like folks in eastern Ontario […]
To the editor: Do you read all of the fine print in every notice or letter that you receive the minute that you receive it? Well, failure to read a Notice of Hearing from the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal could result in your eviction from your home without a hearing—if […]
Dear Mike: I feel I have to write this letter because the incident that occurred this past week bothered me so much. I was on my way home from the west end of town last Wednesday morning after dropping my daughter off at St. Francis School. I turned onto King’s […]
To the editor: After watching Hurricane Katrina for days, I have to wonder how we in Fort Frances will respond if we have problems here. If the kraft mill, say, had a major leak or an explosion, and if a wind from the west was strong enough to force the […]
To the editor: I found much of the article in yesterday’s Daily Bulletin, “Council set to fill vacancy tomorrow,” rather disturbing. First, there is no bylaw in this town to address the proper procedure to follow in the event of the passing or resignation of a member of council. With […]
Dear Editor Re: Daily Bulletin article August 30, 2005–”Council starts process to fill vacancy.” It’s unfortunate town council had to make the untimely declaration to fill the vacant position created by the sudden death of Coun. Struchan. Mayor Onichuk has stated two options are available for council to consider which […]
To the Fort Frances Times, Konnichiwa! I am writing to you from a junior high school in north-central Japan. I came to Japan one month ago today to teach English. It is gorgeous here, and I have already had many amazing experiences. Yet my heart is still in Canada. […]
Dear Editor, We, the people whose job it is to bring you news, current affairs programming and the music from artists across the Northwest, deplore the fact that regional radio service has been brought to a halt. From White River to Big Trout Lake, and Hornepayne to Rainy River, listeners […]
