Dear sir: Our sincerest thanks to all the wonderful people who came to my husband’s rescue up on east Jackfish Lake. First came the McCoys, whose phone I used, then came Bill Godin, who came in second in the recent Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship. But in my books, he […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: Ken Boshcoff stated in his column in the Aug. 3 edition of the Fort Frances Times that all three provincial political parties endorse the closure of coal-burning plants in Ontario. This is, unfortunately, another lie, or at best “half-truth,” told by someone the parliamentary system expects us to […]
Dear sir: If you like to see lots of flowers, please take the time and visit our cemeteries. There are no other gardens that have the quantity of flowers, and right now they are in perfect shape. Our parks employees have done a good job. Every plant must have grown […]
Dear editor: Water meters. Water meters! Wooo-hooooo! Ask Kenora residents what they feel water meters have done for them. First off, someone has to pay for the installation of these costly things. We, the homeowner/taxpayer, will be doing that. I’ve heard that at least in Fort Frances, they’ve been told […]
Dear editor: In the June 3 edition of the Fort Frances Times, your local MPP, Ken Boshcoff, stated he will find some way to ease cross-border traffic. Well, when the summer visitors come from the south, everyone want’s them and their money. Bully for us. But just what is the […]
Dear Mike: With dismay, I read last Wednesday’s article on modifying the rule curve in order to mitigate flooding on Rainy Lake. It concerns me that, again, the primary focus appears to be protecting the property on the lake itself, with little regard for the impact these actions have on […]
Dear sir: Last week I had the pleasure of working with Ted Menzies, the Conservative critic for international trade. Why should our region care about international trade? A manufacturer in our region has stopped shipping product because raw materials are stuck on a dock in Vancouver during a labour dispute. […]
Dear Mr. Editor: I would like to comment on an incident that has taken place in Fort Frances. Last May, I made a concrete stepping stone (eight-inch diameter) with a stained glass inlay of a red petunia. It took me a long time to make it and was a real […]
Dear sir: It is a very interesting fact that the federal ministers of Canada don’t use their full names on their oaths! If a person’s name that appears on an oath is not the same name as that on the birth certificate, then there is no continuation of evidence that […]
Dear sir: I wish to comment on the article in Friday’s Daily Bulletin about the volunteer firefighters. I, as well, am a part-time volunteer on the fire brigade, and am feeling very frustrated and angry with the decision by town council to further reduce the number of full-time firefighters in […]
To the editor: I read Ken Boshcoff’s regular contribution “View From The Hill” expecting just that—his views, opinions, and thoughts about issues and perhaps an occasional synopsis of the work he is doing as our elected representative. Instead, we get a mixed bag of government advertising (“Canadian Forces can offer […]
Dear sir: Attention Fort Frances. Your fire department is being slowly dismantled by our mayor and council. The mayor and council are instituting staffing changes at the fire department that will affect the safety and well-being of this community. Staffing of full-time firefighters is being reduced for no reason that […]
