Dear editor: First, let me say how much I appreciate the Times’ coverage of our Catholic school board meetings. The article in last week’s edition headlined “Catholic board moves forward on French Immersion” has a statement, however, which gives an impression which I do not believe the board intended and […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mike: I was a member of the audience at the public meeting on the doctor shortage last Wednesday night and was both very pleased and optimistic about the presentation, but very dismayed by the lack of positive or open-mindedness of the press and some questioners. It is very apparent […]
Dear sir: I’ve been reading the tirades of our sports reporter, Emmanuel Moutsatsos, and how his reporting of district sporting events has made him disliked by many local residents. I would like to do a poll to see how district residents really feel about him and, at the same time, […]
Dear editor: I attended last Wednesday’s meeting about the medical clinic. I was quite impressed by Mr. Punch’s evaluation of our situation here in Fort Frances. He seemed to have all the answers at his finger tips, but he missed some of the problems. All we would have to do […]
Dear sir: Thank you to the community for taking the time to attend the community forum that was held Wednesday, Oct. 12 in the auditorium at the Memorial Sports Centre. It was great to see such wonderful support from a cross-section of the demographics represented in Fort Frances. Primary care […]
Dear sir: I read with interest the letter in last week’s Times from Bud Edwards concerning aid for the earthquake victims on the Pakistan-India border. World Vision is there working around the clock to help. They had, as of Oct. 13, been distributing 3,000 tents, 1,000 quilts, 12,000 litres of […]
Dear sir: I’ve been reading the tirades of our sports reporter, Emmanuel Moutsatsos, and how his reporting of district sporting events has made him disliked by many local residents. I would like to do a poll to see how district residents really feel about him and, at the same time, […]
Dear editor: Further to last week’s hasty condemnation of Canada’s response to the Pakistan earthquake, I offer the following summary. The Canadian government is providing $20 million in addition to the initial $300,000. Further, the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) will be developed. Our response as a nation must be […]
To the editor: Last Tuesday (Oct. 11), I had a disturbing shock when I witnessed a truck and utility trailer travelling past Tim Hortons with a severed moose head mounted at the truck’s roof. How absolutely disturbing and disgusting this show of “I am the mighty hunter!” The only thing […]
Dear editor: I’m not sure who I should be angry at, the person who was quoted in the Emo Speedway article in the Sept. 28 issue of the Times or the reporter for not getting his facts straight before going to print. In the article, it was written, “Whatever WISSOTA […]
Dear editor: I am writing this to encourage as many people as possible to attend the meeting concerning the doctor shortage slated for tonight (Oct. 12) at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre auditorium. I have been told this medical conglomeration from down east wants to buy out the […]
Dear sir: Oct. 16-22, 2005 is Canadian Foster Family Week, which is dedicated to honouring the difficult, yet rewarding job done by foster families in Rainy River District. Foster families are essential to the work that takes place at Family and Children’s Services. Without the constant care and commitment these […]
