Dear Editor, For all friends of Amanda Chaboyer, formerly of Fort Frances, she is in the Much Music video “Where are you?” by Our Lady Peace. She was lucky to have created her own Native group and was asked to perform for this group. Check the video out—you can see […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Editor, To the person or persons who broke into my home on Wednesday night. You stole some reasonably valuable items, but most of what you took from us were items left to my wife and I from our parents which had more sentimental value to us than cash value. […]
Dear Sir: I would like to give a big thank you to the Parks Board for doing such a great job at Seven Oaks. The area was so beautiful and the pictures taken there of our wedding were awesome. The hard work the crew put in really showed and was […]
Dear Editor, I think that a goverment that wants to not make money is a stupid one. There is no work in the town now so why not just roll up the streets and get it over. Thunder Bay is not that far behind. We are losing four to eight […]
Dear editor: Please accept this letter to Premier Dalton McGuinty. Atikokan, Ont. is home to about 3,500 people, with an economy built around three major employers. The Atikokan generating station alone accounts for about 20 percent of that fragile economy. If your government closes the Atikokan generating station, that economy […]
Dear sir: I am writing this letter to Premier Dalton McGuinty to persuade him to stop the irrational plan to shut down Atikokan’s thermal generating station. My husband and I were in the Toronto area during the last week of July. While we were there, we noticed televised appeals to […]
Dear sir: I read with great interest the letter from Bob Cottam in last week’s Times. Mr. Cottam, this letter is not directed to you in particular, but more as a matter of public interest. In your letter, when the officer spoke to you, you focused on the “drinking.” I […]
Dear sir: In last Thursday’s Daily Bulletin, there was an article on Canada winning a NAFTA ruling on the long-running softwood lumber dispute with the United States. We then believed the U.S.-imposed duties on Canadian softwood lumber exports would be lifted. These duties hit all parts of Canada, but B.C. […]
Dear editor: Sending subsidy cheques to Northern Ontario forestry companies for operating expenses is a bad idea that only will delay the inevitable closing of unprofitable and obsolete mills. Subsidies to industries are a waste of taxpayers’ dollars that allow companies to temporarily put off innovating, modernizing, and adapting to […]
Dear sir: We want to say thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors of the Chapple Heritage Days in Barwick. We had a great time and met many wonderful people there. Everyone was so very friendly and the activities were very enjoyable. Keep up the good work! (Signed), Ben […]
Dear editor: Hi, this is Rapid Robert again. You know, the old guy with the plaid tam. Unfortunately, this is a little different type of story than what you usually hear from me. Last evening (Aug. 1), as I drove my white GMC truck on the First Nations reserve at […]
Dear Mike: I am writing this letter in exasperation in response to the press release issued from town council at Monday night’s meeting. I am a member of the Fort Frances Volunteer Fire Brigade and we have been sent in circles by the mayor and council of this town. The […]
