Dear sir: You can go back to the 1940s when the winner of the round-robin of the provincial curling showdown would represent their province at the national level. Then it was decided to bring playoffs into the format, with the top four teams playing off for the crown. The number-one […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I saw a couple of articles in the paper that irked me very much. First, Paul Martin’s proposed ban on hand guns will make it very hard on trappers. They will now have to carry rifles—and get them full of snow and dirt. Furthermore, the humane disposal of […]
Dear Mike: Congratulations to the Browse-A-While mini mall that had its grand opening on Friday (Dec. 2). There are six different stores in that mall and what a variety of items to choose from. Everything from homemade baking, crocheted socks, mitts, and towels to baby clothes, soaps, ornaments, and Barbie […]
Dear Mr. Editor: In the gift guide supplement [published last week] was listed the top 25 holiday songs. My question is who made this list? The songs are all non-Christmas related. You agree with me, I think, that the reason for the festivities is Christ’s birth. Do you plan to […]
Dear Mr. Editor: There is a saying that “liars figure but figures don’t lie.” It is a fact that not one Prime Minister of Canada had/has any obligation to the public (you) in their signed oaths. The importance of oaths rests in the intention of the taker of the oath […]
Dear sir: In light of the 2005 Nutritious Food Basket results, it appears the ability for many Canadians to access healthy, safe food is becoming more difficult. One of the most common responses to hunger in Ontario is the use of food banks. In fact, the Ontario Hunger Report recently […]
Dear editor: Recently, I had the opportunity to take my Grade 1/2 science students to Mr. Brian Church’s classroom at the high school to observe some lab demonstrations. The students currently are learning about liquids and solids, and Mr. Church agreed to my request to have them see some science […]
Dear Mr. Editor: The members of the colour parties of Legion Br. #29 here in Fort Frances have taken upon themselves to enhance the Year of the Veteran with the ongoing project of mounting an individual photo of each veteran in the branch. We have started this project with the […]
Dear Mr. Editor: I read with considerable interest Coun. Todd Hamilton’s letter to the editor. He asks for trust and support for his position, yet will not release any information so we, the public, can make an informed decision. I do not wish to debate, on such a serious topic, […]
Dear sir: I would like to use your help in solving a small mystery which has cropped up because of the following circumstances. Some time ago, the late Carl Schubring and I were picking up some Knights Templar regalia from the home of the late Ray Holmes. Among the items […]
Dear editor: Our physicians are our trusted and most knowledgeable experts on health care. Their recommendation, choice, and final decision is to work with Group Health. Coun. Albanese continues to state that the town is giving $1 million to Sault Ste. Marie and jobs will go out of town. He […]
Dear editor: If you are like me, the new fallen snow has rekindled your Christmas spirit. Saying that, I find this a most opportune time to write this letter in regards to a good cause that once again can use the help of our community. In the fall of 2000, […]
