I read with interest the letter in last week’s Times from Bud Edwards concerning aid for the earthquake victims on the Pakistan-India border.
World Vision is there working around the clock to help. They had, as of Oct. 13, been distributing 3,000 tents, 1,000 quilts, 12,000 litres of water, and more to suffering victims.
The Canadian government has committed to match every dollar donated to World Vision by individuals, but only until Oct. 26, 2005.
So the more we donate, the more the government has to donate!
Anyone can reach World Vision by calling toll-free 1-800-268-4888 or by visiting www.worldvision.ca
My own feeling is that emergency help gets more quickly and directly to the needy when it is done through grassroots agencies like World Vision, which are right there in the disaster area, than when it filters down through government bureaucracies.
