David Kircher Dear editor: The following letter is directed to Dan Belluz, chair of the Rainy River District School Board, and his fellow trustees: You expressed concern in your last letter that I may misrepresent the board’s position on the missing funds at Fort High. In order for me to […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Wm. KrukoskiAllan T. Bedard Dear editor: We just reviewed articles on taxation, user fees, and the problems regarding the severe impact of a major industry receiving a huge municipal tax reduction—and the cost of those taxes being shifted onto the Fort Frances residential ratepayer. Councillors are crying it’s tax time […]
Shannon Strachan Dear editor: Hi, my name is Shannon Strachan and I provide child care in my home, and just recently started with a family with two great little boys. This is just a small story about one of them that I think really will strike home with many of […]
Cathie Sinninghe Dear editor: I am writing to encourage everyone to start thinking about whose life you can touch. During the Christmas season, as well as all year round, there are many “shut-ins”—people who are not able to get out and about—who really need to know they are loved and […]
Michael J. Baranowski Dear editor: When I was old enough to vote, my choice was the CFF. Later on, I switched to the Liberal Party. Then was turned off with them and went to the NDP, which was my choice up until the coalition incident. We supported the NDP on […]
Donna Bone Dear editor: I and a group of Christian women have just returned from an “overnighter” at Burt’s Haven. I needed to write this letter to let everyone know that such a wonderful place exists—and is available for get-togethers. I can’t get over the hospitality at Burt’s Haven. It […]
Susan Cousineau Dear Mike: We would like to take this opportunity to thank the “animal angel” who rescued the tiny black kitten that was abandoned on the Kenora Highway (it was found chasing a truck on a deserted stretch of the highway in the frigid cold). No animal deserves to […]
Ron Grout Dear sir: The “Loyal Opposition” may soon be known as the “Disloyal Opposition.” With an ingenious tactic, namely acting as a coalition, the three parties forming the Opposition have caused the government to withdraw several “contentious” pieces of their platform. If the three parties in Opposition now move […]
Evelyn Rawn Dear editor: “Operation Christmas Child” thanks the people of Fort Frances and surrounding district for the success of its shoebox program. Fort Frances is known as a caring and giving community, and this generosity will bring smiles to the faces of many children in Third World countries who […]
Larry Hildebrand Dear sir: On Monday, Nov. 10, my mother entered La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances after suffering a sudden, massive stroke. Sadly, she succumbed to this condition five days later on Friday, Nov. 14. Needless to say, this was a terribly difficult, painful week for my family. […]
John A. Reader Dear Mr. Editor: I would like to let Mark McCaig, Town of Fort Frances CAO, know that I agree with him 100 percent as he was quoted in the Nov. 26 article in the Fort Frances Times entitled “Town pessimistic about pre-budget consultation with province.” Town staff […]
Art Scheirer Dear editor: Let me see if I have this all straight. The NDP already had hatched a plan for a bloodless coup d’etat prior to the economic statement by Finance minister Jim Flaherty. It apparently didn’t matter that Canadians had just voted and elected Mr. Harper. Mr. Layton […]
