Jonathan Lewis Dear editor: I would to like to correct a statement made by [Coun. Ken] Perry regarding our public library. We are not reducing the library hours to 25 hours a week nor is there any planned reduction in hours. The library is open fewer hours in the summer […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: Here is a copy of a letter I’ve sent to the members of Fort Frances town council: You may know that in last Wednesday’s Times, I wrote a letter to the editor with one particular concern about dogs riding in the back of pickup trucks. I am an […]
Dear editor: I’ve lived next to Eighth Street for more than 12 years and have witnessed the deer using the same trails out of the bush and into the yards, including mine, eating my plants, licking clean the bird feeders (also in the winter), and enjoying the apples. The deer […]
Dear editor: I was disappointed to learn the Fall Bass Classic held by LaBelle’s has been cancelled for this coming year. Any event that combines family, friends, and fishing is truly Canadian—and will be missed. I understand there were a number of factors that contributed to the decision, however, I […]
Dear editor: This is a note to let some very wonderful people know how much they are appreciated. Every winter for many years now, the Township of Emo workers and the great people at Tompkins Hardware build our tennis court into a wonderful skating rink. Tirelessly, they build up the […]
Eric H. Rude Dear editor: Welcome to 2009. Barack Obama is elected and hoping to help the U.S. to embrace some changes, the town is working on changing the budget, the weather is starting to change, and I am wondering if there is going to be any changes with the […]
Nadia Hedman Dear editor: Just a short comment on the ongoing “search for truth” that Mr. David Kircher has been seeking in relation to the missing funds at Fort Frances High School. I feel that by not addressing this entire issue, the board of education is hoping that the people […]
Frank and Stacy Fraser Dear editor: Helping out your family, a friend, or a neighbour whenever you can is a wonderful experience and usually much appreciated. However, we have noticed many people driving around this winter with snow plows on their trucks and snow blowers and shovels in the back. […]
David Kircher Dear editor: The following letter was sent to the Rainy River District School Board on Monday (Jan. 19): In a review of the Nov. 25, 2008 finance committee minutes, together with the auditor’s notes to the financial statements for the year ending Aug. 31, 2008, I noticed the […]
Al Peterson Dear Mr. Editor: This is an open letter to Mayor Avis and members of town council: I understand we have had a lot of snow to be moved in the last couple of months, and the last thing you would like to hear are complaints from the public. […]
Sandy Bliss McNay Dear editor: On the morning of Dec. 28, I was shopping at Wal-Mart, came home, and discovered I had left my purse at the store in a shopping cart. In a panic, I went back and was told by Customer Service that no one had turned in […]
Wm. Krukoski Dear editor: With the heavy volume of snow this winter, together with an aging population, the number of handicapped and single persons, those on fixed incomes, and even working couples, snow and its removal is not only problematic, but a hardship. I, therefore, would like to place the […]
