To the editor: I was wondering why the wayside washrooms have to be open so late in the spring and closed too early in the fall. We travel to Thunder Bay three times a week because I’m on hemo-dialysis. Those washrooms sure would come in handy. So why can’t they […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: Beware of what our Ministry of Health is doing with travel grants. I was sent to Thunder Bay for surgery and sent a travel grant form in for it. When I received the cheque back, I was surprised it was only $45.75 instead of $63.75 so I phoned […]
Dear editor: They say small towns are filled with rumours and small talk, and stories spread like wildfire, especially in Fort Frances. Well, I’ve never appreciated this more than on Friday, March 3 when my eight-year-old son, Kevin, failed to return home after school. By 5 p.m., I had called […]
Dear sir: It is a well-known fact that the Anglican parish in Fort Frances is in a state of turmoil with a serious dispute taking place between some members of that congregation and the Diocesan authorities. I have remained neutral in this matter, and have no intention of becoming involved […]
Dear editor: I was very pleased to see the coverage and picture of the snocross races held in Fort Frances last weekend. Congratulations to Johnny Lundon, Brennan Kilmister, and Brian Degagne on their achievements racing. However, I was very disappointed to see that Pinewood, Ont. is not considered local. Peter […]
Dear sir: “Come and hunt Ontario’s pristine parks” could soon festoon tourism’s advertisements aimed at attracting big bucks from south of the border if Natural Resources minister John Snobelen refuses to acknowledge the opposing and more popular opinion of “hands off the parks.” As if it was not enough that […]
Dear sir: I was disappointed once again by the obvious bias and/or ignorance your newspaper has yet again printed! I am referring to your article on last week’s snocross in which you failed to mention the fourth local competitor, Peter Fuhrer. Peter lives in Pinewood, Ont. and to the best […]
Dear editor: The statistics quoted in the Times on Feb. 16 with regard to cellular phones are most interesting. For five years, people here in the district tried to convince Bell that cell phones were a good idea but they always said there would not be enough users. It is […]
Dear sir: When I came to this district in 1948, the Pipestone game reserve was in place. It started just north of Finland and ended on the south shore of Crow Lake. All the area east of Highway 71 to Clearwater Lake was banned to hunting and trapping. At that […]
Dear sir: I have been following the snowmobile debate that has been going on in this paper for the last three weeks, starting with Mr. Sundmark’s letter, followed by Mr. Hymer’s reply, and then Ms. Malbrank’s compelling argument. I would just like to bring up a point not mentioned by […]
Dear editor: We are pleased to see the piece in the paper about the district municipalities supporting our efforts in getting a hemo-dialysis unit in Fort Frances. As a member of the Coalition of Seniors, we like to see everyone’s efforts coming to fruition. But I think there is something […]
Dear sir: A while back, I had an opportunity to find out firsthand how precious our doctors and nurses at the Emo Clinic really are. I had my seven-year-old son at the clinic for a very painful ear infection. With medication, he was back to normal by the weekend. I […]
