Dear editor:
Beware of what our Ministry of Health is doing with travel grants.
I was sent to Thunder Bay for surgery and sent a travel grant form in for it. When I received the cheque back, I was surprised it was only $45.75 instead of $63.75 so I phoned the toll-free number on the cheque for inquiries.
I was told they only pay for you to see the nearest general surgeon, thus I should have gone to Fort Frances for my surgery.
Now I am waiting for a grant cheque for a follow-up appointment. Maybe they will tell me I should have gone to Fort Frances for it, too.
Too bad we don’t have all the comforts that southern Ontario patients have with their travel grants.
Signed,
Alex Chobotar,
Atikokan, Ont.
