Dear sir: Just a few thoughts on the name Memorial Centre. We would do well to remember that “kids” aged 18-19 gave not only their time and money but their youth and, in many cases, their lives in time of war. That families who saw their children go off to […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: Upon buying the Emo Centennial cookbook, “The River of Thyme,” we were surprised to see the Visser family featured on page 20. A small rectification, however. The Visser family travelled by plane and first set foot on Canadian soil in Gander, Nfld. on Aug. 8, 1957. The Vos […]
Dear sir: On Oct. 9, 1999, I was present at St. Mary’s Church for the ordination of my father, William Adair, and Bob Grynol into the Permanent Diaconate. This was the culmination of almost five years of hard work and religious studies for both of these men and their wives. […]
Dear sir: I am worried about the attitude of the Liberal party and the federal government over the problems with Canadian Airlines. They are grossly over-funded and it is this debt load that keeps them unable to make a profit. Air Canada is a profitable company, formed in the 1930s. […]
Dear sir: This is the first time I put my feelings on paper but here goes. It’s my turn now! When I read in the paper the new sports complex was being called “Memorial Centre,” and Memorial Arena was keeping its name, I wondered why do we need two of […]
Dear editor: Since town council made its recent decision on the naming of the sports facilities (Memorial Arena, 52 Canadians Arena, and Memorial Centre), I have deliberated as to whether or not to rebut the choice. My conscience has dictated that I express my views and opinions. In the early […]
Dear sir: After reading the article written in the Monday, Oct. 28 edition of the Daily Bulletin and the letter to the editor by coach Dean Bruyere and sports writer Brian Bowman, I feel I have to respond. I also was at that football game and I have to say […]
Dear sir: After reading Monday’s article regarding the coaches’ scuffle marring the Muskie rout over the Dryden Eagles, I was disappointed to say the least of the picture that Brian Bowman painted of assistant coach Bob Whitburn. I saw [Eagle coach Glen] Kawahara have a hand on Gary Wager as […]
Dear sir: In response to Dean Bruyere’s letter to the editor regarding the article I wrote in Monday’s Daily Bulletin, I wish for him to check his own facts. I, myself, had witnessed the whole proceedings from the sidelines and wrote Monday’s article based on what I had seen. I […]
Dear sir: This letter is concerning my actions at the Fort Frances Muskie-Dryden Eagle football game on Oct. 22. At the end of the game, I yelled and spiked the ball in the direction of the Dryden team bench. This was wrong. In no way can my actions be justified […]
Dear sir: After spending two days of my time (Saturday and Sunday) working with a small group of volunteers, building a mile of snowmachine trail to circumvent a problem area, I came home to the news that the brain dead management of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) has […]
Dear editor: Oct. 17-24 is designated as Foster Family Appreciation Week. It is a week to extend our thanks to the many people who provide substitute care to children that need it. We currently have 31 foster families in Rainy River District who offer a great deal of commitment and […]
