Dear sir: “Operation Christmas Child” thanks the people of Fort Frances and surrounding district for the success of its “Shoe Box” program. As a first-year project, I would have to say the response was overwhelming. Fort Frances is known as a caring and giving community. And because so many took […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: About a month ago, I attended the Life Writing workshop here in Fort Frances. The 20 of us were given 45 minutes to write a story. As a retired forester, I had several bear stories but instead wrote the following: I am a cancer survivor and perhaps my […]
Dear fellow Canadians: Each year as I hear the line, “If ye break faith with us who die, we shall not sleep though poppies grow in Flanders Fields,” I wonder how many more ways can we break that faith? Some of the worst “bad faith bargains” that irritate me are: […]
Dear editor: On Nov. 11, as is our custom, my sons accompanied me to Barwick to take part in the Remembrance Day ceremonies. Imagine our surprise when we were told that the “powers that be” decided that this year there would not be a ceremony in Barwick. Why? No one […]
Dear sir: It has come to my attention that the new ice facility in Fort Frances is going to be named after the 1952 Allan Cup winning hockey team. When the people of Fort Frances rallied to have a new ice facility built in this town, they appropriately named the […]
Dear sir: On Second Street East, the Fort Frances Lions Club is using its energy to develop a children’s play area and park. They are using funds from their projects, government and town grants, and citizen pledges to accomplish this major project. Upon completion, it will be known as the […]
Dear sir: I would like to express my thanks to the businesses, taxpayers, and residents of Emo for their overwhelming support following our letter to the editor last week, which directed the township to find a solution to the drainage ditch problem. A representative from the Ministry of Housing and […]
Dear sir: Just a quick thank you note to the Town of Fort Frances for a wonderful Nov. 12 weekend. The dedication ceremony for the new mural was enlightening, educational, and filled with civic pride. Personally, I was glad to see no students were released to attend–we wouldn’t want to […]
Dear Mr. Behan: I am wondering if I could take advantage of your Letters to the Editor column to seek the assistance of your readers. I am in the process of writing a book about the exploits of the Fort Frances Canadians and their seven-year quest for the Allan Cup. […]
Dear sir: Well another Nov. 11 (Remembrance Day) has gone by. If memory serves me right, this day was set aside to remember the people who died in the first and second world wars plus other wars, too. When I went to school, it was a holiday for us kids […]
Dear sir: The Echo Lake subdevelopment agreement has yet to be signed. We regret to inform potential purchasers that building lots cannot be sold until the agreement has been signed. The township has been advised that “. . . it would not be wise to proceed towards concluding the subdivision […]
Dear sir: Thank you to the boy with the skateboard, wearing a yellow jacket, who picked me up off the sidewalk after I had fallen on Third Street East on Saturday afternoon and took me to a friend’s home two doors away. Signed, Eileen Morrow
