Dear sir: It recently has come to my attention the Ontario government proposes to open a number of parks to hunting. Although such as move does not come as any great surprise, given the appalling environmental record of this government, I am nonetheless outraged. Growing up in Northwestern Ontario, I […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mr. Editor: Congratulations to all concerned for offering us a full-fledged paper, which gives us a broader view of the world, confirming our need and willingness to open our mind, enlarge our views, and share our concerns with each other and the world at large. Thus the burning hot […]
Dear sir: Remember the big news a couple of weeks ago about the government financing hockey teams? The news was hardly out of the bag before public sentiment peaked in protest and suddenly government pledges and agreements to bail out teams fell to pieces. The good news about democracy is […]
Dear editor: I stood amazed on Nov. 12, 1999 when the “Paint the Town” heritage mural was unveiled revealing E.W. Backus, my great-grandfather, stunningly represented by the artist Brian Romagnoli in the midst of rolls of paper, dams, and mill illustrations. A hush came over my heart as I realized […]
Dear sir: The Our Lady of the Way Anniversary Committee will host a special celebration to commemorate the 100th birthday of Our Lady of the Way Parish in the town of Pinewood, Ont. on June 30-July 2, 2000. The history of our parish dates back to 1896 when it began […]
Dear editor: Concerning the Rainy River District Music and Drama Festival and the scheduling of entrants. Each year, concern is expressed regarding the scheduling of entrants from all areas of Rainy River District. The program committees for 2000 will be arranging the program to address the special transportation needs of […]
Dear Mike: Thank you for publishing the picture of the 1953 Muskie football team in the Wednesday, Jan. 26 edition of the Times. This letter would be of interest to other FFHS football players. On Friday, July 7, at the beginning of the FFHS Millennium Reunion, there will be a […]
Dear sir: This letter is in response to Gary Sundmark’s letter, “Try enticement, not coercion.” I agree with Mr. Sundmark on two issues. First, the price of trail passes is too high and anyone that knows me knows I have been very vocal about this issue. I also think the […]
Dear sir: The Lake of the Woods Millennium Committee is meeting on a regular basis to continue with the planning for the Homecoming to be held Aug. 4-7. With the year 2000 finally here, details of the event are rapidly taking shape to make this a weekend for all to […]
Dear sir: There is speculation to privatize the Fort Frances Airport. The council is supposed to be representatives of the taxpayers but I think they are being brainwashed–and the taxpayers are left in the dark. Very few taxpayers are aware of how many air ambulance flights take off and return […]
Dear editor: The recent debate about what type of smoke alarm you should have in your home greatly disturbs me. Not because I believe one technology is better than the other–in fact, experience has shown that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms are effective at detecting fires in the home. […]
Dear sir: In your Country Living section of the Dec. 22 edition of the Times (p. B9), your correspondent badly misinformed your readers regarding South African geography. The article stated that Riet Carnahan “went to the Kruger National Park in Cape Town.” That is equivalent to saying someone on a […]
