Dear sir: Well, they’re at it again. The Harris government continues his war against the teachers of Ontario! First, they lengthened the school year, then the school day, then he cut teachers’ preparation time, then he required them to take mandatory update courses (they have been taking courses for years). […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
To the editor: Recently, an article appeared in the Daily Journal about the appointment of Miles Hewitt as vice-president of Boise Cascade’s Minnesota operations. If my memory serves me right, the report implied that he loved the area, the community, and the people, and would work harder than ever at […]
Dear sir: I’m sure this is somewhat unusual to write a thank you in this manner but I feel this to be the appropriate forum. On May 14, the Choraliers performed their Easter Cantata at St. Mary’s Church to a most appreciative audience. Although there was not the usual crowd […]
Dear sir: Re: Tag Day held May 5. On behalf of the La Verendrye General Hospital Auxiliary, we would like to extend our sincere “thank you” to everyone who contributed to our Tag Day. Once again, it was a huge success and Fort Frances came through with their generosity. Yours […]
Dear friends at the Times: Tonight is the second time that I am enjoying news from “home.” Another Fort Frances friend informed me that the Times is on-line and I was able to find it immediately. Keep up the good work! It is great to get the news new. Snail […]
Dear sir: The international bridge here may soon become known as the Troll Bridge. Yes, it may have the proverbial troll taking up residence at the gateway to Northwestern Ontario; a real live greedy-guts able to extract whatever toll he pleases from the unfortunate travellers who are obliged to use […]
Dear sir: The Emo Lions Club recently held its annual walk-a-thon, and club members were disturbed by the negative, inaccurate reporting of the event in last week’s Times. The correspondent stated, “Unfortunately, this year’s walk-a-thon was not a profitable venture because not as many people participated.” We wonder where he […]
Dear Mr. Behan: Re: “Town going into hydro business” (April 26, 2000 edition of the Times). Mark McCaig of the Fort Frances Public Utilities Commission is wrong if he is correctly quoted as saying new taxes will be applied to all consumers to pay for the standard debt of Ontario […]
To the editor: After flipping through the paper last Monday, Tuesday, and then Wednesday, I was very disappointed not to see a single mention of the Spring Charity Ball hosted by the Fort Frances Women’s Business Network. There was, however, a full page spread on the Ducks Unlimited banquet held […]
Dear sir: Acting in an arrogant B.Y.C. (because you can) mode, corporate gorillas Boise Cascade and Abitibi-Consolidated have jointly declared war on freedom. Citizens from both sides of the international border soon will be paying through the nose, in more ways than one, for the privilege of being assaulted with […]
Dear sir: This is that guy who wears the plaid barrett, that goes by the name Bob Cottam, or more specific, “Rapid Robert,” as shown on the front of my truck. The topic that I have on my mind, and have for a long time, is the word “credit.” There […]
