Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.

Dear editor: As we are now into the Spring Break of district schools, please permit me to go back to the happenings of last week. No less than four of our sports teams (three from Fort Frances and one from Atikokan) left the district to compete in provincial playoffs. In […]
Dear sir: In your Daily Bulletin of Feb. 23 was a story on a court decision to allow Métis to hunt and fish at anytime of the year without licences and limits. Now this is a fine decision. It is a firm start on equality in our province. Allowing the […]
Dear sir: According to recently-published media reports, the expert panel appointed by former Health and Long-term Care minister Elizabeth Witmer is recommending the creation of medical school campuses of Greater Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Windsor, affiliated with existing medical schools. Some may conclude this is the good news we have […]
Dear editor: I would like to respond to Ken McDonald in his letter to the editor last week regarding the “Quit Smoking 2001” contest. The contest is funded in part by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and supported by 57 local councils on smoking and health in […]

Why not defend it from the outset when you first experienced the “wrath of family and friends?” Obviously, you are […]
Dear sir: In response to last week’s letter to the editor re: the Quit Smoking 2001 Contest, I would like to provide the following information. The need to reduce the amount of smoking in our area is urgent. Northwestern Ontario residents smoke at a higher rate than residents in the […]
Hello, You may find this letter a little strange as I am writing to you from Perth, Western Australia. Through the Internet, I have met a wonderful family from Fort Frances. They have shared with me all the wonderful things that make your town so appealing to families and the […]
Hi! Thank you for providing the Fort Frances Times on-line. I keep up with the news on a weekly basis and it brings back many fond memories. We lived in Fort Frances for eight years and our three children were born there. During that time, I had managed the Diagnostic […]
Dear sir: A while back, there was some concern about how many of our young people were leaving our community for better paying jobs. We know of this first-hand as our two sons have left Fort Frances for jobs and school. We also are the parents of a developmentally-challenged young […]
Dear sir: Last evening (Feb. 28), I attended the “Fort Frances High School to Germany” concert at the Townshend Theatre. While I played in a band during high school, and sang in several choirs since, I lay no claim to being a music critic. Despite that, what I heard was […]
Dear editor: I am writing in regards to the rebate cheques that were sent out for February. If I understand correctly, the reason for these rebates was because of the increase in natural gas prices. Well, when I received my gas bill, it had nearly doubled from what it was […]
