Dear sir: There is a group of students at Fort Frances High School I would like to acknowledge: the directing/producing team of Kim Badiuk and Charles Fisher, along with their very talented cast and crew. Since the fall, they have been hard at work rehearsing, forfeiting sleep, learning lines, finding […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: The provincial government is giving it away. Then they’re going to charge you to use it. The provincial government is in the process of drafting regulations to go with Bill 101, the amendments to the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act which it passed just before Christmas. One of their […]
Dear sir: Well, “no name” street has now got a name, Veteran Ave. My congratulations to the winners of the name-that-street contest. Veteran, an excellent name for any other street or avenue, but this one. Generally, access roads that are behind properties that front on a major street, such as […]
Hi, I was flipping through the most recent issue of the Fort Frances Times (Jan. 31 edition) and noticed a picture of my sister and her family. The photo was taken by Jack Tynan in Emo along Front Street. The caption begins: “Sharon and Wade Demchuk pulled their daughters, MacKenzie […]
Dear sir: I would like to comment on recent news articles regarding the local Forest Management Plan (F.M.P.) and the Trout Road access question. I would specifically like to comment on references made to the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club. Questioning the right of the F.F.S.C. to be at the table […]
Dear editor: I would beg to kindly remind Mr. Vandetti and his friend whose “joke” he repeated (Just Passing By, Jan. 24) that the “gnashing of teeth” is not just “proverbial.” It is the words of Jesus, which He spoke five times in the Gospel of Matthew, in Chapters 13, […]
Dear editor: In the Fort Frances Times of Jan. 24, the newly-formed “Crossroute Forest Sportsman’s Alliance” was profiled. I was ashamed that these “sportsmen” who claim to represent the “public” couldn’t even spell words correctly on their protest signs. I also was offended at their misinformation surrounding the Crossroute/Trout River […]
Dear editor: In recent articles in the media, two separate but related issues have been reported in an inaccurate and confusing way. One issue is the attempt by the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club to have the Trout Road opened up so the general public can have access to a huge […]
Dear sir: I am writing this letter to express a great feeling of gratitude. When my staff and I decided to promote Christmas at my business, we thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to share some of the success that has come our way since opening the doors of […]
Dear editor: I want to credit Fort Frances for such an awesome sports facility. I retired this past summer and my wife and I, rather than go south this winter, have followed our grandson’s hockey team to a few tournaments and there isn’t a rink so beautiful as yours. So […]
Dear sir: I am writing this letter in regards to the pulpwood spill at the corner of Portage Avenue and Nelson Street. So far, this spill, along with the one which occurred in the 900 block of Scott Street a while back, have both dumped their load on vacant ground. […]
Dear sir: I am inquiring as to whether Fort Frances has a leash law and if so, who enforces it? We recently adopted a four-year-old ex-racing greyhound and she makes a wonderful addition to our couch. But yesterday, when out walking the dog, I was charged by two dogs–a rotweiler […]
