Dear sir: I would like to comment on Dr. Peter Sarsfield’s sarcastic remarks in the Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000 edition of the Times (i.e., “The municipalities have an obligation to pay the levy. They don’t have the right or authority to refuse.”) Think about that line! What is the health […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: Brockton (Walkerton) residents wish to extend our sincere appreciation for the generosity and compassion of the many individuals, municipalities, businesses, and community agencies across Ontario and Canada. You have sustained our spirits over the past 31 weeks and contributed to our recovery. The lifting of the boil water […]
Dear sir: To the residents of the Emo area: Once again, you have opened your hearts to those families who are not so fortunate as yourselves. Your donation of toys, clothing, stocking-stuffers, paper, and ribbon has helped to make Christmas even more special to some child this holiday season. Bless […]
Dear sir: There are a lot of people in our area who spend a large amount of time in the bush. A great place to get away. And then there are a lot of people who get lost in the bush–not such a good time to get away. One simple […]
Dear sir: I was recently accused of, and ticketed for, running the red light at the intersection of Keating and King’s Highway while eastbound. Since I had done no such thing, and was fortunate enough to have a witness, I went to court, defended myself, and was acquitted. I have […]
Dear sir: The spirit of giving thrives on Third Street West. On Dec. 21, I was preparing to leave for the Falls airport when the snowplow passed by and blocked my driveway. I was shovelling it out when a car stopped and a young man ran over to me, took […]
On Sunday morning, Nov. 26, my husband and I, and our dog, were involved in an accident when the tractor-trailer we were driving rolled over just outside of Fort Frances.
Dear editor: The holiday season is upon us, and it feels like there is no end to the “to-do” lists to complete. The hustle and bustle makes it difficult for me to look around (mostly because my hat and scarf are so tight, it has limited my field of vision). […]
As the fire chief of the Town of Fort Frances, I would like to bring to your attention the potential dangers that lurk inside your home this December. The holiday season is full of traditions, including a higher-than-usual number of fire deaths. Believe me, there is nothing more upsetting to […]
Dear sir: As admirers of Sony and as consumers of good audio products, my wife and I have become agitated enough after seeing repeatedly two Sony commercials that have provoked us to the point of seriously considering the mind of Sony. What are the ads in question? They are: 1). […]
Dear sir: The Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club sincerely appreciates the tremendous support Fort Frances and the district gave to our conservation efforts. Everyone certainly was behind our major fundraiser, the OFAH Conservation Dinner, which generates money to enable us to carry out our projects. Because of the generous donations and […]
Dear editor: If you have been following the struggle in education across this province, you are aware that Bill 74 has taken away the ability of nearly all high school teachers to be involved with extracurricular activities if they dedicate themselves to doing the job for which they are paid: […]
