Dear editor: In March of this year, I hospitalized my husband to take a rest and get some things in order–things that were difficult to do when he was at home for, due to this illness, he required constant supervision. My husband suffers with dementia. After a two-week period of […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: On behalf of the Fort Frances Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society, I would like to extend my special thanks to the Fort Frances community for your generosity and support of our sixth-annual “Spirit of Christmas” celebration. This year’s event once again was a tremendous success thanks to […]
Dear sir: We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful nurses, aides, and anyone else involved who helped put on the most enjoyable Christmas party for the residents and their visitors this past Saturday, (Dec. 2) at Rainycrest Home for the Aged. We enjoyed the […]
Dear sir: Well, well, well, the old relic bridge ain’t what it used to be, many long years ago. Sort of like the old gray mare, eh! Hey! Only a few broken joints, and no one was hurt, but maybe the old bridge is sending a message. That message being […]
Dear sir: I recently visited Fort Frances and Couchiching. The drive from Thunder Bay has never failed to revive and remind me of how blessed we are with natural beauty. The service providers of Fort Frances and Couchiching were hospitable and helpful, which we all know, if unpleasant, can make […]
Dear sir: The dictionary says: “Toll . . . a tax or fee paid for some right or privilege.” As there is no fee to cross into the U.S.A. here at the present time, the $6 (U.S.) charged to come to Canada can only be a tax. This tax–to enter […]
Dear sir: The ratepayers of the Township of Alberton have spoken. And I believe they sent a clear message to council–they do not want a new community hall built in Alberton. Although the count was short of the required 50 percent of eligible voters on a referendum, turnout was still […]
Dear editor: We, of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances, note the eloquent letter by Amanda Galusha in your issue of Nov. 15 re: Remembrance Day. A short time ago, a member of the high school staff told me that due to the 11th falling on a […]
In November, 1989, the Berlin Wall started coming down and the fall of the wall is now part of history. With the fall of the wall, a famous border crossing–known as “Checkpoint Charlie”–was dismantled. Many of the items connected to “Checkpoint Charlie” ended up in museum, however, it is rumoured […]
Dear sir: I would first like to congratulate the Muskie junior and senior girls’ basketball teams on winning NorWOSSA gold. I also would like to thank the volunteer coaches for coming forward this year and doing such a great job and enabling these girls to play basketball this season. I […]
Dear editor: After the election three years ago, I heard a lot of grumbling about the way it turned out and how Mayor Witherspoon should step aside and let someone new give it a try. Well, once again another local election has passed us by and there has been no […]
Dear editor: I sat this morning and read the letter in last Wednesday’s Times by Rick Weidenhoeft. I also feel the frustration and anger that comes with the lack of an increase in pay. I work for the Association for Community Living in Fort Frances, where we have felt the […]
