Dear sir: This is a letter of sincere gratitude to the fantastic people of Fort Frances. I had the honour of working with a group of people involved with the first-annual “Relay for Life.” I and nine other individuals, as a team, helped organize and raise roughly $75,000 to fight […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
To the editor: The Northern Therapeutic Riding Association would like to take this opportunity to thank the following riders who worked so hard to make sure the NORTRA horses are fed this winter. They included Mandy Lahti, Denise Donaldson, Kirsten Shoemaker, Jim Zucchiatti, Jennifer Shoemaker, Phil Donald, Jessica Shoemaker, Carly […]
Dear sir: This is to acknowledge Mr. Kielczewski’s half-hearted apology. His comment about the “bow and arrow,” etc., to me is “suppression.” No people of any race should be suppressed. Treaties vary from area to area. Hunting and fishing are not all what treaties are about. We had our own […]
Dear sir: I believe a reply to Donalda Mainville’s letter of June 6 is in order. I will answer in comments in order. I did not pull fish by the hundreds, it was the thousands over a period of 65 years, and it was thousands of dollars of licence fees […]
Dear editor: We had the privilege of accompanying a group of grade eight students from St. Francis School on a camping trip to Riding Mountain National Park. Their behaviour, enthusiasm, and respect for everyone made us proud to be part of the group. The Outfitters commented on their excellent behaviour. […]
Dear editor: I had the opportunity on the first Saturday in June to host the Grand Master of Masons of Ontario at a reception at a local hotel. He and his wife were accompanied by many Grand Officers and spouses from southern Ontario. Masons and wives from all over Northwestern […]
Dear Mr. Editor: Remember the “good old days” when you could get service with a smile? Customers were greeted with cordial verbal acknowledgment which placed them on a personal level with the store owner. I am pleased to discover there is still one entrepreneur in Fort Frances who is never […]
Dear sir: By the time this reaches print, the Abitibi-Consolidated/Revenue Canada $500,000(?) faulty facility on the Customs project may have started. The recent project suggestion of the buy-out of the bridge may stall the project while the proposal is under study. While a change in ownership to a public facility […]
Dear editor: Just the facts please. Re: coverage of “Freedom Ride Hits the Trail” (Wednesday, June 6, 2001–Fort Frances Times Pg. B1 third-last paragraph). The fact is, CUPE Local 65 is in a labour dispute with the Fort Frances and District Association for Community Living, not with NORTRA. The fact […]
Dear Mr. Editor: The Association for Community Living workers’ strike is another indication of the sad direction our society is headed. As corporate wealth continues to escalate and the rift between the rich and working poor widens to an abyss, the government blames the workers for our province’s financial woes […]
Dear sir: I would like to take this opportunity to speak to my swimmers, their families, and the community who knew me as the head coach of the Fort Frances Aquanauts Swim Team. To the swimmers who I have had the pleasure of coaching for the past 14 years, thank […]
I would like to ask Mr. Kielczewski a question, with some comments later. Mr. Kielczewski, how did you feel when you were pulling fish, out of the water, by the hundreds. Day after day, etc. But then, you had the “right” under a “commercial fishing licence.” Well, we have a […]
