Dear sir: An open letter to the people of Ontario. I fell in love with your country in 1953 when I was just 15 years old. That was the year of my first fishing trip to Sunset Country. Each time I return, I feel refreshed and renewed. The clear water, […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir, I am a member of CUPE Local #65, which presently is on strike against the Fort Frances and District Association for Community Living. Striking was not an action that our membership considered lightly because being on strike has serious consequences for our families, the people we serve, and […]
Dear editor: I have been out to the picket line to support the FFDACL workers on strike. I have found them to be very friendly and upbeat. I have heard that the workers’ biggest disappointment is to see the clients suffering from the lack of services they are now receiving. […]
Dear sir: I have found it reassuring to hear that the hemo-dialysis unit in Fort Frances is on track for operation come the fall. It is my understanding that the room is coming along quite nicely, and that there are nurses hired and in the process of starting to, or […]
Dear sir: I am (once again!) dismayed (but not surprised!) at the extremely poor coverage given of our recently-held Rainy River Festival of the Performing Arts. Each year this exciting event involves hundreds of young people and volunteers from across the district. The participants devote countless hours of practice perfecting […]
Dear editor: To the people living on Emo Road 2 north from Emo. Two weeks ago, I completed my annual pickup of garbage thrown from some of your car windows. I picked up from the cemetery back as far as my place as I have always disliked seeing the roadsides […]
Dear sir: I was visiting family in Fort Frances in May and attended a spring dance recital, “Colour Your World,” put on by Chantelle Johnson and her dance group May 25 before a full house. The costumes were very well done and brightly coloured, with the dancers ranging in age […]
Dear sir: I would like to thank the aboriginal people and their descendants for sharing their walleye and sturgeon with us–the under-privileged people who must wait until spawning season is over to commence fishing. The aboriginal people are to be congratulated for sharing their bounty with us. This is very […]
Dear Mike: I would like to thank you personally and the Times for its support of the Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts. Your readers do not know the arrangement that you and I have made regarding publication of festival results. The festival was to drop off daily […]
Dear editor: I am writing to voice my concern of, and draw attention to, the recent announcements of the Harris government regarding “parents choice” and “tax credits to private and religious schools.” Once again, the Harris Tories are initiating programs which are designed to dismantle the public education system. Several […]
Dear sir: Can you answer these questions? 1. Do you have in your home, or workplace, an approved fire extinguisher? 2. What type of extinguisher is it? 3. What class of fire will it put out? 4. What size of fire will it put out? 5. How much time do […]
Dear editor: I am writing this letter in regards to the strike by the Fort Frances and District Association for Community Living, CUPE #65 members. I would just like to start off by saying that I have been employed as both a union and a non-union member. As most are […]
