Dear sir: On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Therapeutic Riding Association will be holding its annual “Freedom Ride.” This fundraising event helps to offset the cost and upkeep of the horses needed to provide physically-challenged people the opportunity to go riding. Not only does horseback riding encourage positive socialization, it stimulates […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I would like to thank all the organizers and anglers for volunteering their time at the Kid-Pro Tournament on Sunday. I also would like to thank the people who donated the gifts and prizes. They were really cool! I would like to make a special thanks to Rick […]
Dear sir: About two years ago, I wrote my first letter to the editor. I had just recently moved to Fort Frances from Rice Lake, Wis. I am a Canadian from Thunder Bay, Ont. and sometimes not very proud of it. The reason I wrote the first letter was because […]
Dear sir: On Saturday, July 20, the North Western Group of Ontario Land Surveyors met in Emo for their summer meeting. The group was very impressed by the surroundings and what the area has to offer. Owing to the distances which some people have to travel to get to these […]
Dear editor: I normally enjoy reading the stock car articles in the district newspapers but one in particular has convinced me that someone has to set the record straight! In the Fort Frances Times of Wednesday, July 17, written by “Staff,” it says, “Plagued by several delays” and “took some […]
Dear editor: I’ve read Allan Kielczewski’s letter with indifference to the rhetoric. As a subscriber to the Globe and Mail, I have become slightly better acquainted with the general non-native public’s concern over aboriginal issues. The problem with any non-native solution is that it won’t fit, however well-meaning or educated […]
Dear Mr. Editor: We were disappointed to hear the Town of Fort Frances has declined to purchase the old Fort Frances High School from the board of education for $1. We hope our idea for the use of the property will not fall on deaf ears and that the town […]
Dear sir: I believe our town has the best cemeteries in the country. I have never seen better anywhere. This year with the flowers planted on time, the sunshine, and the rains, they are superb. The parks board employees are to be congratulated on their good work. Thank you, Ron Helliar
Dear editor: I have been in Winnipeg since May taking treatments for cancer and in that time, I have had quite a lot of time to look around. One of the things I saw got me to thinking. It was the Louis Riel Museum. Louis Riel was more advanced in […]
Dear sir: Recently, I visited with Irene Katz Marantz in Winnipeg, who shared with me the column written by Harry Vandetti entitled, “They’re gone, but not forgotten.” I belatedly want to thank him for writing the column expressing his sentiments about the Jewish residents of Fort Frances. The town was […]
Dear sir: In light of the current “recycling blues” that many people are experiencing, and in an effort to divert some recyclable materials from going into the landfill, the Rainy River Valley Field Naturalists are having its first “kick at the can” fundraiser. We would encourage everyone to save their […]
Dear sir: I would like to say a big thank you to the person(s) who found my brown wallet—all contents intact—that I lost about three weeks ago. It was placed by the Thrift Store door at the Salvation Army. It’s very encouraging to know that there are still Good Samaritans […]
