Dear editor: As a responsible dog owner, I take care cleaning up after my pets at home and in public areas. This week, I received a call from the by-law officer about my pet waste. Apparently in the Town of Fort Frances, pet owners are not to dispose of pet […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I would like to express my gratitude to the Borderland Thunder during the “Skate for Easter Seals” held Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Memorial Sports Centre. I was very impressed with the way the players handled all the kids on the ice, special needs or not. You could […]
Dear editor: This letter is in response to Kenneth C. Hyatt’s letter to the editor in the Nov. 6 edition of the Times, headlined “He who is without sin . . .” In it, he chastised the Times for publishing an article entitled, “Statistics on murders of women a scandal” […]
Dear Editor: It was one year ago that we almost lost our grandson, Joshua, to a drowning accident at the Memorial Sports Centre pool. This day is a lot like Remembrance Day—a day we will never forget. And that is why we’re writing this of our two great heroes: Kristine […]
Dear sir: We commend the Fort Frances Times for its prominent coverage (Nov. 4, 7, and 13) of our recent open house—an event held at La Place Rendez-Vous that featured a visual display of foundation-building suggestions for enhancing the livelihood of our community. We also take this opportunity to thank […]
Dear sir: Most of you probably know our Borderland Thunder hockey team is made up of great players, but what you may not know is the size of their “hearts.” This past Sunday (Nov. 17), the Borderland Thunder, along with Easter Seals, held a special afternoon of skating with all […]
Dear sir: While vacationing on a bus tour in Ireland, we checked in at the Quality Marina Hotel in the town of Waterford. To our surprise, we noticed that the street was named “Canada Street!” With our own waterfront needing an identifying name, the committee and town council came up […]
Dear editor: There are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers, those who currently are caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers. Caregiving is a uniquely human act with a history that spans centuries. It will touch almost everyone […]
Hi Mike: It was with great sadness that I just recently heard of the passing of my good friend, Elizabeth (Grandma) Boyda. Mrs. Boyda was a regular on the radio birthdays show, often calling in a little earlier to make sure she would be on to wish a friend or […]
Dear Mike: I would like to thank your writer, Sarah McGinnis, and the Fort Frances Times for the help you recently gave the Rainy River District Music Festival Association. Festival committee members suggested the course of action and I followed their advice. Festival has been planned and run by as […]
Dear sir: On behalf of the committee for “Re-Inventing Fort Frances,” I wish to thank our founding chairperson, Janis Lesko, for her tireless dedication to improving our community. Janis resigned from our all-volunteer committee in September to accept an out-of-town career opportunity. In August, 2001, following months of organizing activity […]
Dear sir: This letter is in response to an article by Duane Hicks, “Smith trial underway,” on Oct. 30, 2002. In the Hicks article, he seems to have chosen to titillate the readers with a one-sided reporting of the events. There was no reference made to the cross examination of […]
