Dear sir: In response to Ontario Hydro’s 100 percent price increase: “In the days of my own prosperity, things had seemed to me to be very well arranged. “Now from his new point of view, he was to find they were not arranged at all; that government was a compromise […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: In response to last week’s letter to the editor under the heading “Clarifying Comments” by Linda Wall, Rainy Lake area supervisor for the Ministry of Natural Resources. We are killing our fisheries as one of the holding tanks at one of the tournaments was filled with chlorinated water, […]
Dear sir: I am writing in regards to the continuous reminders around town as to how many days are left until Christmas. One way the Yuletide countdown is being announced is by those lovely sandwich boards that downtown businesses use. Another way is through your own weekly Internet poll. All […]
Dear editor: I have read Mr. Watt’s letter to the editor (Sept. 19), in which he chastised those members of the Rainy River District Law Association who do not accept legal aid cases for supporting the withdrawal of legal aid/duty counsel services. He views their support as hypocritical. By analogy, […]
Dear sir: Like many town residents, I am following with interest the progress on the “Blue Box” recycling program here in Fort Frances. Comments I have heard regarding the program include, “The truck doesn’t pick up anywhere near what it did in the past under the NORA program” and “I’m […]
Dear sir: This is “the old guy with the plaid tam” again. I’ve been a bit confused lately, more confused than usual, as your eyebrows raise! It wasn’t long ago that my name was added to “Rapid Robert” and now that I have purchased my new motor bike, they have […]
Dear editor: This is in reply to Mr. George Bartlett’s recent letter thanking “whoever is responsible for the flowers” on Third Street West and at the Central Avenue intersection. As a member of the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s beautification committee, I want to thank Mr. Bartlett for his kind […]
Dear sir: I am concerned about some comments in a letter to the editor in the Fort Frances Times, the Rainy River Record, and the West End Weekly last week entitled “We’re killing our fishery.” The letter may have led readers to believe that the opinions of the “biologist” that […]
Dear sir: As the former Area Director of the Ontario Legal Aid Plan for the District of Rainy River, I found the decision of the members of the Rainy River District Law Association to withdraw their services from Legal Aid Ontario to be highly hypocritical. Of the 12 lawyers practicing […]
Dear sir: To the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario. I live in Fort Frances, where we are used to taking cuts by governments (federal and provincial). We have little say on what happens here as we are so outnumbered by the mass of people in the Toronto area. The […]
Dear sir: Here is a riddle for all you fine people of Fort Frances: Question: Why did the red chicken cross Scott Street? Answer: To get page two of her tax bill from the neighbours! Have a great day, everyone! (Signed), Carla Kibiuk
Dear sir: The controversial added tournament on Rainy Lake—Denny’s 30 Rainy Lake Invitational—has hit home as it is the third derby on the lake on this year. And you can say three more walleye tournaments on the Rainy River at the Town of Rainy River, Emo, and the mini-one at […]
