Hi: I was in the Fort last year. First time in 30 years. Our family headed west to B.C. in 1970, something my dad, Mel Tate, always wanted to do. It was both interesting and disappointing as I walked the streets looking at my old high school, which looked boarded […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I was informed of the passing of Walter (Woody) Gray recently. I am writing to express my respect for Woody and of the way he handled his disabilities/illness. I work with persons with disabilities and always find it interesting how people deal with their disability. Woody demonstrated to […]
Dear sir: “Our object is to continue until there is not a single Indian in Canada that has not been absorbed into the body politic, and there is no Indian question, and no Indian department.” This is a statement made by the then Superintendent General of Indian Affairs, Duncan Campbell […]
Dear sir: Re: the Fort High reunion 2002. Hats off to Carol and Dick Lyons, Chris Lowe, Lorne and Agnes Swanson, and John Berg-lund. Don and I want to thank this committee for a great weekend. It was wonderful to see so many old friends. Chris, she still has the […]
It seems like most of the traffic speed signs are obsolete, ever since the town made a four lane highway from Third Street West and Colonization. It is very seldom that vehicles limit their speed to 50 km as marked and most likely they go 70 km or greater. This […]

Can I ask people from the Rainy River District to keep remembering all the flood victims in our district, esp. the ones whose houses have been condemned and who need to rebuild or relocate before winter comes? The funding process for these people has been extremely slow and frustrating. Here […]
Dear sir: On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Therapeutic Riding Association will be holding its annual “Freedom Ride.” This fundraising event helps to offset the cost and upkeep of the horses needed to provide physically-challenged people the opportunity to go riding. Not only does horseback riding encourage positive socialization, it stimulates […]
Dear editor: If there was one, there were twenty people I met at the tent wanting to know why I was not in the bass tournament, so to clear the situation to others it was a matter of not receiving my entry fee for the draw on time. I mailed […]
Dear editor: One year ago, July 31st, a young man was murdered for no apparent reason. Who was he? His name was Nathan McDonald and he was sixteen years old. What kind of sentence do you think the guy who killed him received? He received a six year sentence, he […]
To the editor: I want to thank Sarah McGinnis of the Fort Frances Times for her interest in the Character for Backus/AB initiative here in International Falls. One major correction I need to make is that our group of business and community leaders is not prepared to foot the annual […]
Dear editor: This letter is to expand information released in the Fort Frances Times on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 titled “Ambulance concerns focus of meeting.” The statement regarding qualified staffing levels, “we’re doing ok” doesn’t tell the complete story, we are not doing ok. As of June 1, this year, […]
