Dear editor: After reading about the beef farmers’ troubles for a few months, it brings back memories about commercial fishing in this area. In the early 1970s, the commercial fishermen received an awful jolt. Word came from the federal government to pull all walleye and northern nets from the water […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I am once again overwhelmed with the generosity of the wonderful folks in Fort Frances and Rainy River District who gave of their time, energy, and financial resources to help me out with my medical and personal expenses that will be incurred over the next few months. On […]
Dear sir: I am writing in regards to the disgusting and dangerous condition of the downtown parking spaces on Scott Street. I recently had the horrendous task of trying to navigate over the snow banks that are between the road and sidewalk, with my 18-month-old daughter in my arms. Luckily, […]
Dear editor: Now that I’ve been assaulted (“A gentle wrist slap,” Feb. 11), I feel I need to defend myself. The only problem I’m having is that I can’t seem to find anyone who agrees with the editor (did you even hear the interview?) or his source. I was never […]
Dear sir: Recently, the Grade 8 and SK students from Walker/MacKenzie schools collaborated on a “letter writing” project. The older students began with writing a short friendly letter to a younger student and, in turn, the little ones prepared a letter and illustration of their own. To celebrate the letter […]
Dear sir: I would like to comment on your editorial in the Times of Wednesday, Feb. 11. The “gentle wrist slap” seemed to me more like a poke in the eye of our new mayor. While it is true he has only one vote, as do the councillors, it is […]
Dear editor, I find some disturbing issues in last week’s Fort Frances Times editorial about Mayor Onichuk allegedly “taking the wrong tack” and “leading as if he’s the boss.” Frankly, if Mayor Onichuk tells any media the financial situation as it is when asked, I believe, we, as taxpayers, expect […]
Dear sir: It was no surprise to me that the previous town council and administration left us more than $2 million in debt. However, before raising our taxes 40 or 60 percent in an effort to recoup this debt, let’s not forget we are the proud owners of several unsold […]
Dear editor: Please let me address the Christian community as follows: In a short while, we, as Canadians, will be asked to vote for a new government. What are we to do? A parable: Do not put new wine into old wineskins. We Christians are all familiar with this parable. […]
Dear sir: The Ministry of Natural Resources is proposing to issue a second deer tag for hunters this fall, with the change in regulation slated to be posted on the Environment Bill of Rights in early February. Earlier, the MNR had stated the snow depth cracked the 50-cm (20-inch) mark […]
Dear editor: Wal-Mart has arrived in Fort Frances and what a great way to introduce themselves to our community. Last Thursday morning, a presentation was made to four local charities, and Friends of Animals was one of the grateful four. We cannot express enough thanks for the money received, which […]
Dear sir: In response to Gord Pyzer’s column, “Winter shaping up to be a killer for deer,” that appeared in last week’s Fort Frances Times. Well, the killer of deer in winter conditions such as we are experiencing now is the month of March, when the weather moderates enough to […]
