Dear editor: After reading many articles on the proposed skateboard park and seeing the addition to J.W. Walker School, I have some questions and concerns. First, I have some concerns over the liability and policing surrounding the skateboard park project. The cost of the project is $300,000. One liability suit […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: Hi. Rapid Robert again. At any rate, “the old guy with the plaid tan.” I visit my wife, Eve, at the hospital every night in Emo. Things are beginning to look like Christmas at there—Christmas trees being decorated, door ornaments being hung, and activities geared to Christmas. The […]
Dear sir: I would like to thank the Fort Frances Times for the pleasant surprise that awaited me in your paper on Nov. 19. My name was spelt correctly, not just once, but four times! So impressive. I mean, Judsons are so hard to find these days. I commend you […]
Dear sir: I am writing to clarify and correct last week’s article, “New Baptist Church planned for district,” that appeared in the Country Living section. Grace Community Baptist Church is an autonomous body of believers. We are associated with the Southern Baptist Convention, which is the largest Protestant denomination in […]
Dear sir: Recently I attended the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. It is a personal pilgrimage I have made since boyhood. The fair is an eclectic event of rural traditions and products. From “Buster” the bull husbandry services to bison-on-a-bun burgers, from handmade textiles to petting zoos for city kids […]
Dear sir: It was with great disgust and disbelief that I read last week’s article, “Two elk shot north of Finland.” Why someone would destroy, not one, but two of these great animals in such a manner is very hard to comprehend. As a member of the “hunting lobby,” I […]
Dear sir: We, Lin and Jean, would like to say how much we enjoyed representing the volunteers of our wonderful town, during the centennial year, as the 2002 “Citizens of the Year.” Thank you to the people who nominated us, the committee who chose us, and Pam Hawley and the […]
Dear sir: I read with interest the two-part article by Michael Hilborn, “Riding Shotgun with the OPP.” I don’t understand these so-called “bush parties” or “pit parties”, or whatever, which seem to have become a common phenomenon. Do parents actually throw these parties for their kids, and the kid’s friends, […]
Dear sir: I just want to congratulate Dan Onichuk on his victory in the mayor’s race in Fort Frances. I have known Dan for many years, and even though I haven’t seen or talked to him in a few years, I think that Fort Frances made an excellent choice in […]
Dear sir: Many thanks are extended to the citizens of Fort Frances and surrounding district who participated in the “Operation Christmas Child” shoe box program. Since 1993, “Operation Christmas Child” has become a Christmas tradition for many Canadian families and individuals. The response this year has been tremendous and I […]
Dear sir: I am writing this letter in response to recent articles in local newspapers regarding the results of a study on the economic impact of tourism in Sunset Country. I have had the opportunity to review the report released from this study, and I have serious concerns regarding the […]
Dear sir: My long-awaited return from my exchange in Australia has finally arrived, and I find myself both extremely excited and extremely sad. I always knew this would all end eventually, but never did I expect it to be so hard. As I say my tearful good-byes to friends, teachers, […]
