Dear sir: I read with interest the article, “Ruling on smoking issue not expected until new year,” which appeared in the Dec. 17 edition of the Fort Frances Times. Dr Sarsfield’s comments were particularly intriguing. He is quoted as saying that “The review board has neither the experience nor the […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: This letter is in response to Natural Resources minister David Ramsay’s announcement last week not to reintroduce the spring bear hunt—despite protests from local municipalities, businesses, sportsmen, tourist outfitters, and the many businesses they deal with. This issue started with animal rights groups and politicians without much though […]
Dear sir: Friends will come to the forefront whenever problems such as financial difficulty or health should arise. Surprisingly, old friends forgotten for a lengthy period of time will surface to wish you well. True friendship is a gift of a lifetime, which can be cherished, forgotten, or destroyed by […]
Dear editor: I am writing to you in regards to an article last week on the “gateway” project to clarify that the “Re-Inventing Fort Frances” committee, while not officially engaged, has been working on the project with the Rainy River Future Development Corp. on an ad hoc basis—and will continue […]
Dear sir: Hi, this is the old guy with the plaid tam again. You know, “Rapid Robert.” Recently I’ve been asked the story about my tam, or “barrett.” To satisfy those inquisitive people, I’ll try to make it short and simple. When I was in the army in World War […]
Dear editor: Hi, here I am again with some arcane knowledge which may, or may not, interest your readers. Your editorial in last week’s Times about the Canadian at NORAD who ordered the shutdown of the skies over North America during the 9/11 crisis reminds me that Canadians have always […]
Dear sir: Do you really think that if the “blue box” day coincided with garbage day it would make a difference in the amount of “blue boxes” out there? Puuleeze, get real! The reason hardly anyone in Fort Frances is recycling is because there is next to nothing that […]
Dear editor: I would like to commend local Safeway employees for once again adopting the “Community Chest” as their charity of choice for 2003-04. Having recently experienced a family medical emergency, we are truly grateful for the generosity of the “Community Chest.” Please be generous with your donations. Thank you, […]
Dear sir: I am writing with regard to the “Christmas Angels” program being administered through Family and Children’s Services here. This program, which currently is set up in a local department store, collects donations of toys, which enables the agency to provide gifts to foster children throughout the district. Last […]
Dear editor, If all the taxes from smokes and alcohol were put into the “health” care fund, the health care would be over-funded. Which begs the question, if the taxes are not put into the health care . . . “why not?” Demand an answer from your local MP and […]
Dear sir: It is a sad situation that security staff have to be hired to watch over some individuals who would do damage to the arena. Since I have been working there, the majority of the people—whether young or old—have been wonderful, caring people. We have been told by out-of-town […]
Dear sir: I received the Nov. 26 edition of the Times yesterday and was very pleased to find a copy of the 2004 Milk Calendar enclosed. It originates only miles from Oshawa, and is inserted in local papers here as well, but I never seem to find out the date […]
