Dear sir: The meetings held last Tuesday (May 18) did not allow for proper discussion of the plan for waste disposal for Fort Frances. People were rightly upset with the way this plan was presented—many people voiced their concerns that this was a done deal. It appeared to be that […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: My purpose for writing is to positively acknowledge Henry Miller, one of our town’s most giving—and modest—volunteers. As both a retired teacher/principal and a passionate outdoorsman, Mr. Miller has offered an amazing amount of his time and knowledge to our class at J.W. Walker School, and to many […]
Dear sir: A big thank you to Steve and Livia Lundon of the Northern Do-it center for their support during my recent “Joints in Motion” barbecue fundraiser for arthritis. A total of $418 was raised. Thank you to Hal Mickelson once again for helping in setting up and making sure […]
Dear sir: We would like to take the time to thank all the Youth Bowling Council members who provided both our daughters with a great season. The time and effort that is put into making sure the YBC kids have a great year is really remarkable. It’s a great way […]
Dear sir: The article which appeared in last week’s Fort Frances Times regarding the proposed building project at Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program (SCAP) requires some clarification. The student numbers at SCAP have been maintained at a constant level for some time, and I have been assured by school administration and […]
To the editor: Yes, I voted for 98 percent of the new council and to the best of my knowledge, they have done well to this point in time. I believe in municipal taxation, and I also think they did a good job in getting the budget to where they […]
Dear editor: I would like to express my appreciation for the wonderful articles in last week’s Fort Frances Times written by Melanie Béchard (“Young women’s conference teaches self-respect”) and by Michael Hilborn (“District speech contest a true test.” I appreciate the fact that it is not always possible to recognize […]
Dear Mike: Harry Vandetti’s idea of having the ghost of Rainy River astride the Great Beaver during our centennial parade is simply spooktacular! The problem is we have only one Great Beaver, but no shortage of ghosts. I’m afraid designating the honoured seat could raise more cries of nepotism than […]
Dear sir: I am a foster mom of two special needs children. My husband and I have been caring for these two boys for eight years. Because of their special needs, they are unable to use the school bus. We have been fortunate to have the Emo handivan transport our […]
Dear editor: As a recent newcomer to the Town of Fort Frances, I was immediately impressed with the excellent sports and arts facilities available to this community. Over the past 25 years, we have lived in a number of much larger cities that cannot boast of facilities like the La […]
Dear Mike, On May 7-8, Kitchen Creek Golf Club participated in the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s Home and Leisure Show by providing staffing and some support at the “Hole-in-One Drive Away Putting Competition.” Throughout, the results of many hours of dedicated effort from Dawn Booth, the Chamber of Commerce […]
Dear sir: People of Fort Frances, we have to stand up! First of all, “bag tags.” This is ridiculous. The founders of this new system are too embarrassed to admit they screwed up. It’s not too late to just add the few dollars to everyone’s monthly bill, so our garbage […]
