Dear editor, As a former neighbour and schoolmate, and as a friend, I am extremely pleased to announce the successful nomination of Art Berglund to the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in the builder category for his many years of service to the development and promotion of hockey in […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I would like to give the community an update in regards to my Arthritis Society’s “Joints In Motion” campaign. I am, and will continue to, fundraise over the next few months in honour of the late Darrell Webb, who suffered from crippling rheumatoid arthritis in his hands and […]
Dear sir: I am writing to compliment the “Centennial Committee” and all the volunteers on the great job they did for the LaVallee/Devlin 100th anniversary. It far exceeded our expectations. I, along with my sister, Janice (Barker) Andrews of Devlin, attended most of the planned events. One of the highlights […]
Dear editor: We would like to thank all the anglers who fished the Kid-Pro tournament this year. Nicole was fortunate to have been able to fish with Wayne Howard and Bob Limberg. She had a wonderful time and an experience she will never forget, thank you Wayne and Bob. It […]
Dear sir: I would like everyone to know that now the flowers are all planted and have taken hold, that our cemeteries are a mass of colour. Nowhere in the world are there any as good. We should be proud of them. The staff who have worked so hard to […]
Dear sir: My wife and I had the opportunity to attend the La Vallee centennial that was held a few weeks ago. Hats off to all the people who worked so hard to put on a great party and who also ran it so efficiently. We were both amazed at […]
Dear editor: I would like to announce that my daughter, Amanda Chaboyer, used to dance with Fort Dance Studio in 2000-01. Since then, we moved to Toronto, where she pursued her career as a Hip Hop dancer. I would like to thank Borka Gauthier and all her fellow students […]
Dear sir: During 2003, town council voted for a raise in salary while dropping the benefit package, which put their gross salary on a par, more or less, with other communities in Northwestern Ontario. It now appears some councillors want it both ways. They want both the increase and the […]
Dear editor: There was some stunning news in last week’s paper. Ontario just signed an agreement with the Métis to let them hunt and fish without licences year-round. I believe they (Métis) should be given a means test first to see if they need this fish and wildlife, as most […]
Dear sir: Every now and then, an ordinary person produces something extraordinary. This was revealed this week with the release of the Rainy River Centennial Cookbook. It really is an exceptional work with not only many tried and true family favourites, but it is put together in a fashion that’s […]
Dear editor, The mayor and council were elected because the citizens of Fort Frances put their trust and faith in these people to do what is best for the town. The passing of a bylaw that would see members of council receive a paid benefits package—in addition to remuneration—can only […]
Dear sir: If the mayor and council of the town of Smallville were employees of that town, business of council would come to a standstill (mmm, what a thought). For example, when the discussion of wages was brought up, each member would have to declare a conflict of interest. I […]
