Disgusting mess

To the editor:
Last week, I took my four daughters fishing in Porters Inlet, Rainy Lake. They had a great time, caught lots of fish, threw lots back, and enjoyed the sunshine.
I’ve been fishing and camping on Rainy Lake with my family ever since I was old enough to hold a fishing rod, and my father, an outdoors enthusiast, always stressed the importance of respecting nature and keeping our garbage off the lake, beaches and bush.
I’ve passed these principles down to my children who are very careful, and conscious about where their garbage goes in the boat, and when camping.
As a matter of fact, they’re better than I am, even picking up the empty minnow bag from the boat floor and tucking it under a seat to make sure it doesn’t blow out.
That’s why my children and I were completely disgusted to find the second beach at Porter’s Inlet left to look like a garbage dump.
Without a word of exaggeration, there were 15 garbage bags in the bush right next to the beach, ripped open and garbage spread everywhere. A fire pit was dug in the beach about six feet in diameter and that was also full of garbage. The beach is so full of broken beer bottle glass that you wouldn’t let your children walk on it with bare feet.
Mr. Editor, I would like you to print this letter in your newspaper to tell the culprits responsible for this mess three very important things.
#1. Animals will tear open garbage bags if you leave them in the bush.
#2. You do not cut down and burn green wood. There are dead trees blown down in the bush and only a moron would cut living trees down off the beach. And finally #3. In about a weeks time, my family and I will be going back to the beach to clean up your mess. And after raking your glass and cleaning your garbage, if I find so much as a scrap of paper with a name on it or anything to indicate who might be responsible for this mess, be assured that I will hand it over to the MNR and the OPP.
I sure hope we find something. In the meantime, save yourself the fines, go back to the beach, clean up your mess and leave it better than you found it. You have one week.
