Dear Mike: In its first provincial budget, the McGuinty Liberal government announced the de-listing of adult eye examinations, along with removing chiropractic and some physiotherapy care. The public outcry has been great as people understand the importance of regular eye health examinations. What do we know right now? Children aged […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: In newspaper reports earlier this month, NDP MPP Gilles Bisson said the Liberal government has failed to deliver on a promise to provide more tags to moose hunters. He is off target. This year, 392 more tags are being allocated to resident moose hunters than were issued in […]
Dear editor: On the weekend beginning July 30, we attended the Chapple school reunion. Once again, the Chapple heritage committee, with help from various community members, organized a memorable and fun-filled three-day celebration. Every minute of each day was enjoyable—from registration day at the Barwick Community Hall, where we met […]
Dear sir, I just attended my third Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship. I was just thinking wouldn’t it really be a nice world if we all could get along together like those anglers do that fish in the tournament. They hail from both the United States and Canada, but they […]
Dear sir: This letter is to Roddy Mc., Herb B., Charlie B., Wes L., Jessy R., and Tom J. A huge thank you to the Both family of Barwick for hosting our “wedding” during Chapple Days earlier this month. As well to Mr. Cousins for officiating (by the way, my […]
Dear sir: I was pleased to hear that Howard Hampton and the NDP now support the proposed Conawapa Dam power project and transmission line. It wasn’t always this way. Eleven years ago in 1993, it was Howard Hampton and the NDP who cancelled Ontario’s hydro lifeline with Manitoba. That lifeline […]
Dear Editor: What happened to those lovely seats that were placed along the three main blocks downtown. I have talked to a number of seniors and they miss them. Seniors like to be independent and when able, go downtown on their own once in a while without bothering their families. […]
To the editor: I would like to thank the Times for the great job they did on the full colour cover of the bass tournament. Now that it is over. Could I thank the people responsible for the great flowers at both cemeteries, at the Point Park, at the Lions […]
Dear People of Fort Frances, Well, the invasion is over and by now I’m sure most everyone’s life is back to normal. Please allow me to congratulate everyone on another tremendous tournament. As a team with nine consecutive years fishing your extravaganza my son and I still are as excited […]
To the editor, Hi, I just wanted to drop a quick note about the Bass Championship. My name is Marci Anderson and I sing for the band “Legacy”—we opened for Doc Walker. I think the events were unbelievable. I’ve have never seen so many people so pleasing to play for. […]
Dear sir: We would like to congratulate the La Vallee centennial committee for the super job they did on the celebration. We particularly enjoyed the heritage tour. The suppers and breakfasts were well-prepared and I thought well-attended. We also enjoyed very much the dance featuring “Legacy (the lead singer was […]
To the editor: Last week, I took my four daughters fishing in Porters Inlet, Rainy Lake. They had a great time, caught lots of fish, threw lots back, and enjoyed the sunshine. I’ve been fishing and camping on Rainy Lake with my family ever since I was old enough to […]
