Sickening mess Dear sir: My family and I went to the second beach at Porter’s Inlet on Thursday, July 8 and we were very disappointed to see garbage scattered all over. Last year, we took advantage of the low water while camping there for a week and spent many hours […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
A suggestion Dear sir: Permit me to suggest a reasonable method of handling the recent proposal to reconsider the provision of a benefits package to the mayor and councillors. Table the issue until roughly two months prior to the next election and decide at that time if the incoming members […]
Dear sir: At one time, council members were elected for being chosen as good, honourable citizens who were held in high esteem and it was an honour to be chosen. So, now we go to the hub-bub about the present council wanting more money than they already have. My understanding […]
Dear editor: After my candidacy was declared last fall, I watched a significant number of council meetings on Shaw (I know, get a life). One of the decisions they made that I disagreed with was over councillors’ benefits. It was not so much that they did away with them, but […]
Dear sir: We would like to congratulate La Vallee centennial committee members Maxine Hayes, Joyce Witherspoon, Freeda Carmody, Sheri Stamarski, Liz Donaldson, and Ken McKinnon for the fantastic job they did with the centennial celebrations. The amount of work that went into this project was phenomenal! Thanks also to their […]
Dear sir: I have not seen “Fahrenheit 9/11” as Michael Moore is well-known for lack of objectivity in his work and intolerance of anyone who opposes his radical leftist agenda. However, I have a few comments in response to a statement in the film review. One film viewer applauded Mr. […]
Dear sir: Recent actions by the current council of the Town of Fort Frances require some clarification. Hopefully, what follows will not sound like sour grapes but instead will offer an insight into the actions and statements of some council members with regards to council remuneration. I have become quite […]
Dear sir: I have a few questions for town council after watching and listening to them debate the issue of paying benefits at their last meeting June 28. Coun. Gilson, you mentioned you were aware of the remuneration paid to councillors prior to the election. I assume the other prospective […]
Dear sir: What a shameful waste of taxpayers’ money! By blocking passage of the Family Medical Leave bill just as the Ontario legislature was preparing to recess for the summer, the NDP cost Ontario taxpayers more than $100,000. The bill was passed after recalling all MPPs to vote in a […]
Dear editor: It would seem that Mayor Onichuk and Couns. Kabel, Gilson, and Wiedenhoeft need to be reminded of their place. In the June 29/04 edition of the Daily Bulletin, Coun. Kabel stated: “We’re paid a salary to do an elected official’s job for the Town of Fort Frances. I […]
Dear Mike: I would like to compliment all those who were involved in the La Vallee celebrations that took place this past weekend. The hours of organizing, planning, and preparation were evident by how smoothly everything went. I was especially impressed with the parade, and compliment the participants. The various […]
Dear sir: For the past two years, the Fort Frances Public Library has offered a tutoring program in which high school students are hired to tutor children between senior kindergarten and Grade 3. The tutors assist the children to get on track with their math and/or reading skills. There were […]
