Dear editor: I am writing in response to a number of articles I have seen in your paper on the province’s budget announcement de-listing optometric services for adults. Since the budget, I have been trying to understand whether the government is going to continue to protect patients who rely on […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor, Last week’s letter entitled “Stop child porn” requires clarification. The writer claimed that “Canada’s Internet Service Providers (ISPs) refuse to follow the British lead and screen out these sites from their service. The British Telecom (BT) had set up the framework to make this easy for other providers […]
Dear sir: The fourth-annual “Relay for Life” is over and I just wanted to mention how proud I am to be involved in this event once again. Not only was it a wonderful night, all the participants and sponsors managed to raise more than $50,000. For a community as small […]
Dear sir: The convicted murderer of Holly Jones in Toronto admitted that he committed this gruesome crime because he had been viewing child pornography on the internet. Holly did not know her murderer. She was simply a child waiting to cross the street. Canada’s Internet Service Providers (ISPs) refuse to […]
Dear sir: I first came to Northwestern Ontario in 1946 to work in the mines in the Red Lake area. As I was young at the time, I didn’t pay much attention to politics and you had to be 21 to vote any election. The first member of the federal […]
Dear editor: Liberal supporter Alan Tibbetts misled Fort Frances Times readers last week in claiming that “both of the other main parties in this election are not totally supportive of regional agencies.” In fact, the NDP plan calls for a reversal of Paul Martin’s deep cuts to regional development agencies […]
Dear sir: I live in a wonderful part of Emo. On one side, there are elderly people; on the other, a woman with small children, the hospital, and the ambulance building. When I moved here in 1990, I thought it was the most quiet and peaceful neighbourhood. But the field […]
Dear editor: At the all-candidates’ debate in Fort Frances earlier this month, Liberal candidate Ken Boshcoff expressed his unreserved support of the FedNor program, which is the federal government’s main engine of economic growth in Northern Ontario. FedNor is one of a series of regional development departments that assist disadvantaged […]
Dear sir: We have enjoyed the Fort Frances Times as our source of local and community news and events for many years. Therefore, our family was shocked at the brazen ads, including lewd photographs, for “Ladies Nite Out” and “Canadian Playboyz” (June 2 and 9) which left nothing to the […]
Dear editor: Recently our town requested residents try composting their “garbage.” For a cost of $40 plus taxes, a resident can purchase a bin from the town. I would like the residents of Fort Frances to be aware of the dangers of composting in our area. My concern is that […]
Dear sir: Allyceea Ennis died on her school bus in Thunder Bay two days before Valentine’s Day. Since then, her family has been asking the question, “Why?” The more research we do, the more we discover that small children—left unsupervised and unrestrained—are not safe on school buses. Transport Canada and […]
Dear sir: What is the obligation of the federal government for the welfare of the public? This might come to you as a surprise, but according to the Privy Council Office, there is nothing in writing that the federal government has any obligation for the welfare of the public. Every […]
