Dear sir: It seems like it was only yesterday that my wife and I arrived in Fort Frances and we were gearing up for the Christmas appeal 2003. Wal-Mart wasn’t even open yet and the idea of a new Canadian Tire was still in the works. But now, only a […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mike, We applaud Fort Frances Minor Hockey’s decision to “affiliate” the Midget and Muskie programs. It provides hope and direction to all participants. It also will allow accountability on the ice, in the classroom, as well as at home. Now let’s discuss the pros and cons of implementing the […]
Dear editor: This letter is to congratulate your journalist staff. I say “staff” because it evidently took your whole staff to write a very short piece on Warp 9 and 92.3 The Wolf and their Hallowe’en for kids. It must take real talent to turn a completely virtuous act and […]
Dear Mr. Editor, We would like to recognize the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce for its unprejudiced selection process in regards to the business awards handed out last month. That is, by including non-Fort Frances businesses in your awards, you reinforce the fact that we are all part of a […]
To the editor: Over the past several years, particularly, as a settlement agreement regarding our land claim has become more imminent, Rainy River First Nations has been approached by individuals and groups either wishing to sell land or enter into business ventures. We are receiving numerous enquiries, many from individuals […]
Dear Editor, I understand that the administration at the Fort Frances High School is disappointed by the lack of “school spirit.” As a high school parent and an active participant at many of the events held at the school, I have spent a lot of time talking to the students […]
To the Editor, Regarding your article which appeared on the front page of the Friday, October 28, 2004, Fort Frances Daily Bulletin, we, as residents of Riverwalk Condominium, feel compelled to respond. Positive comments, rather than negative comments would have been more beneficial to everyone. Your headline, “A few condo […]
Dear Mr. Editor, My name is Bobby Gillon and I’ve spoken with quite a few local residents and we’ve come to a seven-point solution to the town’s economic woes. I’m not trying to interfere with the Re-inventing Fort Frances program, but instead I’ll be trying to invent the future of […]
Dear sir: As you approach your 80th birthday, you have some trepidation to open the letter in the brown envelope that you know will arrive from the Ministry of Transportation. You know you will have to take some tests to renew your driver’s licence. The government wants to cut down […]
Dear sir: While watching Monday evening’s meeting of Fort Frances town council, broadcast live on Shaw Cable, I was appalled to hear Mayor Dan Onichuk read a portion of a letter from Shaw Cable announcing its mobile program production van is being moved to Thunder Bay. The official notice confirmed […]
Dear editor: “Panda” is back! After placing several advertisements in the local newspaper, and receiving many calls, I am happy to report a happy ending after more than three weeks. Panda was recovered last Thursday from the rafters of my neighbour’s garage, just across the street. Much thinner, and a […]
Dear Mike: I am writing because I have a deep concern about land use issues in our province. There has been very little coverage in our district regarding the MNR parks and conservation reserve legislative review. Comments must be provided before Nov. 8, so I strongly urge residents to investigate […]
