Sir: I was upset when I heard the results of Sunday’s referendum in France on the proposed constitution for the European Union. I considered the E.U. would override the established states and wars like those that started in 1914 and 1939 could no longer happen. When the United States of […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Mr. Editor: Just thought I would like to respond to Mr. Kielczewski’s letter to the editor two weeks ago. I certainly agree with him that the MNR should close the walleye season on March 15 instead of April 15. The walleye at least would have that extra month before they […]
Dear editor: Mr. Neilson missed my point in his letter to the editor last week. I am very happy with our privileged natives feeding us under-privileged people walleye during the closed season. What I am complaining about is the millions of walleye eggs being destroyed before these fish spawn. I […]
Dear sir: The local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society has had another successful campaign. The total, to date, is $48,184 from all sources, although the actual door-to-door canvass was down more than $3,000 from last year because several areas were not canvassed. Special thanks and appreciation to the Beta […]
Dear sir: “Communities in Bloom” is a non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification. The Fort Frances committee is up and running, and the town will be provincially judged based on the efforts in management planning, maintenance, improvement, and innovation of the following: tidiness effort, environmental […]
Dear Mr. Editor, This is to make people aware that Stewart Road in the Township of Alberton has been in terrible condition since the spring thaw (late March). With all the rain, the potholes just keep getting deeper and deeper—and wider. The township has not even bothered to display warning […]
Dear sir: In his letter to the editor last week, Allan Kielczewski asked for our thoughts on the Manitou fish fry. I am happy to share my thoughts both as a reader of Mr. Kielczewski’s annual letter on this subject and as one who enjoyed the event. When Treaty #3 […]
Dear Mike: It has been brought to my attention that Fort Frances town council is discussing a reduction to the staff of our full-time firefighters. I personally find this very disturbing. I have been a volunteer firefighter for nearly 10 years. During that time, I have been in very hazardous […]
Dear editor: In last week’s Times I see the Manitou fish fry is taking place again. These walleyes are spawning fish, with a closed season on the same. The law says natives can give the fish to you for no reimbursement of any kind. I think this is very liberal […]
Dear sir, Based on the article in last week’s paper, and what I saw on TV, I must say I am appalled by what is being done by our town council. At last year’s open meeting, the possibility of reducing the size of the fire department was discussed—and withdrawn—due in […]
Dear Editor, With Daffodil Month now over, the Canadian Cancer Society would like to thank the many volunteers who helped make the month such a large success in our community. During the month of April, volunteers throughout the community banded together to sell bright yellow daffodils – the symbol of […]
Dear Editor, With all due respect to Allan Kielczewski and his opinions. First off, I am not really sure how to address his comments about the native fisherman. So I’ll start with what I agree with. Yes, I do think there should be a closed season for the walleyes. Spawning […]
