Dear sir: I am writing in reference to an article that appeared under the byline of Emmanuel Moutsatsos in the Sports section of your newspaper on Wednesday, March 16, 2005. We in Windsor have been delighted to welcome so many excellent high school hockey teams and their staffs, parents, and […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: In last Wednesday’s Times, there was a very interesting letter by Jack Elliott. I agree with his theory, but walleye season should close on March 15 or 31 and re-open on May 15. Jack also missed the point on walleye depredation. The native people kill more spawning walleye […]
Dear sir: This is an open letter to the public in regards to Riverside assuming control of Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances until a local solution can be reached. CUPE Local #65, along with local supporters, community residents, and friends and families of residents staying at Rainycrest, […]
Dear editor: Every spring, the Rainy River is a staging area for mature populations of walleye/pickerel from Lake of the Woods to spawn on this river and its tributaries. In my opinion, this concentration of large, trophy-sized fish has, in recent years, attracted an increasing number of “sport” fishermen who […]
Dear sir: Last year, a number of individuals were charged with trespassing on CN Rail property in Fort Frances. With the likelihood of serious injury or even death, one can understand the concern for public safety of those who elect to cross the rail tracks at unprotected crossing areas. Thus, […]
Dear sir: Well, it’s been a long winter with lots of snow and our share of cold weather. But like a lot of other folks, as a way of passing time, I like to get out there and do some walking. I always take along my camera along just in […]
Dear Mike: No skateboarders are able to do a “crooked grind” or a “front heel flip” on the tennis courts anymore. The dips, cracks, and weeds don’t lend itself to a cool game of tennis any more. The times are a-changing as to when the net was to hit a […]
Dear sir: The other day, I was getting my glasses adjusted when a customer made a negative remark about the cost of glasses. The comment made me uncomfortable yet I couldn’t think of anything to say. But I thought of plenty while driving home. Every day while driving to work, […]
Dear Mike: Saturday, March 19 was a beautiful day. Not only for the weather, but also for the come-and-go tea put on by coaches Gaby Hanzuk and Connie Wood at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau for Joyce Gosselin. At least 70-80 people showed up by invitation to enjoy the dainties […]
Dear sir: I thought that I was done writing letters to the editor but apparently not. I’ve tried to keep this letter short, but was not able to given its nature. I hope you will provide me the space needed to address what I think is a libelous issue. Being […]
Dear editor: I am writing this letter in regards to Mayor Dan Onichuk’s letter to the editor entitled, “In response,” in the Wednesday, March 9 edition of the Fort Frances Times. I am outraged that an individual in a position such as mayor would respond in this fashion. First of […]
Dear editor: I am writing to ask Mayor Dan O. and Fort Frances councillors to please intercede on behalf of the holders of handicapped vehicle licences to the skateboard park committee. It is important that the handicapped have an opportunity to have at least one parking stall equipped with an […]
