Dear sir: This is a letter for the disturbed individual who chose to throw a sealed box with four baby kittens out on the River Road on Feb. 20. We found the abandoned babies, and also found homes for all four within an hour of rescuing them. Perhaps in the […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I’m wondering if the Christmas tree by the post office is still burning bright to comfort those attempting to recuperate from Christmas debt? And if we are going to continue paying to light this tree, could we perhaps have seasonal colours—like purple for Lent, and maybe yellow, turquoise, […]
Dear editor: Ever since the Friends of the Fort Frances Public Library began, our efforts to raise funds have exceeded expectations. But it’s only with the support of local businesses, the community, and willing volunteers that dreams are realized. “The Friends” recently held its ninth-annual Valentine bake sale and fundraising […]
Dear editor: The issues raised in this letter certainly are not just my own. Many of them recently have been brought to my attention by people from across the region. To my knowledge, the public has not heard anything official about the progress of the negotiations between the Rainycrest and […]
Dear sir: A letter written to local MP Ken Boshcoff, printed in the Times last week (Feb. 16), deserves a response, I believe. To Mr. Boshcoff, please stay with your decision to vote against legislation to change the meaning of marriage from between man and woman to man with man. […]
Dear editor: We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Fort Frances BIA for hosting the “Funny Valentine’s Day Story Contest.” Not only did we enjoy submitting our story, but were even more delighted when we were announced as the winners of the contest. We want to thank […]
Dear sir: I am writing to Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Ken Boshcoff regarding the legislation that was tabled in the House of Commons last week around the definition of marriage. I am aware that he previously has stated an intention to vote against such legislation—and I would request that he […]
Dear sir: Marriage as it is debated today is merely a relationship between two people who love each other. Marriage was intended to be, and should be, a relationship that goes beyond feelings and the sexual expression of two people in love. We need marriage to be a lasting commitment […]
Dear editor: As made clear by recent events and publicity, there are challenges facing the forestry industry in Northern Ontario. As minister of natural resources, I am aware of the problems that must be tackled, and I am committed to working with the industry and all other interested parties to […]
Dear sir: After having spent the weekend (Feb. 4-6) at the ‘AA’ Atom tournament in Fort Frances, I can say “hats off” to those volunteers who organized and ran it so smoothly. Good job! (Signed), Earle Rattai Longbow Lake, Ont.
Dear editor: Re: The Fort Frances Times of Jan, 26, 2005—“District farmers willing to test all cattle for BSE.” Roger Griffiths, of the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association, stated, “There is so little risk of people getting BSE . . . only 150 people worldwide have had BSE.” If Mr. Griffiths wishes […]
Dear sir: The need for an abattoir in Rainy River District existed the day the last one that was here closed its doors. This has affected all types of livestock that would be processed in such a facility. Our area is losing millions of dollars annually because of this current […]
