To the editor: Were those bells ringing in the holiday season the past couple of weeks or were they a death knell for small businesses in Fort Frances and surrounding environs? The latest debacle begins with the letter “W” and will end with a “T” (for tragic) as small businesses […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I apologize to Janis Flewelling and the citizens of Fort Frances who were offended by my accusation that the wallet stolen from me at the Super 8 Motel in town on Dec. 12 was taken by a resident of your community. The possibility does exist that the thief […]
Dear sir: After reading the comments in the Times recently about the possibility of a Wal-Mart store opening in Fort Frances, I would like to make a few comments. To those citizens who see only the issues of low pay, non-unionized employees, and too much low-priced competition for local stores, […]
Dear sir: A week ago, my house caught on fire. But thanks to the speedy response and efficient work of the La Vallee fire department, I still have a house. Their work is very much appreciated. We are fortunate to have people like this in our community. Yours truly, Joe […]
Dear sir: I see your medical officer of health in your area is pulling the same tactics as here in Nova Scotia spreading total myths about the “dangers of second-hand smoke.” The same old statistics he uses have been proven to be totally false, and the only thing he will […]
Dear Mr. Editor: Hi, this is the old guy with the plaid tam again with the continuing story of the time my brother, Norman, and I walked a team of horses from Rainy River to Nestor Falls in the 1930s. After leaving our comfortable night at the home of a […]
Dear editor: This letter is in response to the letters, “Take Heed” and “More on Wal-Mart,” that appeared in the Dec. 18 edition of the Times. As an employee of Wal-Mart, I know for a fact that employees are paid more than minimum wage. Wal-Mart’s starting wage for anyone working […]
Dear sir: Ontario residents—from all walks of life—have reached out to Africans facing a devastating food shortage by donating $697,112 to World Vision’s appeal for southern Africa’s famine relief. Christmas is a time for reflection, sharing, and giving thanks. For me, it is also a time to be grateful for […]
Dear editor: While the month of December traditionally is a time for families to come together and enjoy the festive season, it is also the time of year when we see a marked increase in the number of fatal fires. For the Ontario fire service, December through March is, without […]
Dear sir: This Christmas, like many parents, I look forward to my older children returning home for a visit. I have two children, aged 18 and 23, who are living in southern Ontario. Mixed with my happiness is the unfortunate reality that my older children will return to an urban […]
Dear sir: One of the main reasons I immigrated to Canada was that it was a compassionate country. We are about to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who brought compassion to the world, yet just last week, we heard the news of a coroner’s jury that found a pregnant […]
Dear Mr. Editor: I am responding to the letter that was written by the gentleman in Thunder Bay that had his wallet stolen at the Super 8 in Fort Frances. As a proud citizen of our community, I took offence to the implications that Mr. Kenney wrote about. I would […]
