Team effort

Dear editor:
I would like to express my appreciation for the wonderful articles in last week’s Fort Frances Times written by Melanie Béchard (“Young women’s conference teaches self-respect”) and by Michael Hilborn (“District speech contest a true test.”
I appreciate the fact that it is not always possible to recognize the contributions of all members in a working committee in every article, but I would like to take this opportunity to do so now.
With regard to the 2004 young women’s conference at Quetico Centre, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the facilitators and organizers of this event.
Thank you to co-chairperson, Peg Keffer of Crossroads School in Devlin, for her assistance in co-ordinating this year’s event. Thank you to Diane Ross of the Rainy River District School Board, Susan Hanson and Tammy Caron of the Atikokan Crisis Centre, Jacqueline Gaborieau of Riverview School, Georgina Jarvis of Rainy River High School, Karen Gannon and Diana Coutts of Atikokan High School, Dana Kosowick, Julie Angus-Morrice, and Cathy Baron of Robert Moore School, Sharlene Gilbert and Kate Woods of J.W. Walker School, and Catherine Bruyere of Fort Frances High School.
In addition, appreciation also is extended to this year’s student activities co-ordinators, Carley McCormick of Fort Frances High School and Ali Smith of Atikokan High School.
Grateful acknowledgment is extended to local community merchants and organizations for contributions to the conference, as well as to the Elementary Teachers’ Federation and Occasional Teachers, the Ontario Secondary Teachers’ Federation, C.U.P.E., and OSAID for monetary donations.
Special thanks to Judy Eluik, a Rainy River District School Board trustee, for the time and effort she committed to assisting with this year’s quilt project.
With regard to the 2004 district speech contest, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the planning committee. Thank you to Maureen Ricard (literacy co-ordinator), Ann Anderson (speech language pathologist), Lucinda Meyers principal at Donald Young School in Emo), and Peg Keffer of Crossroads School.
Thank you to Donna Dittaro and Kim Gardiman for taking on the difficult task of judging this year’s event. And thank you to Laurie Walsh and Evelyn Fisher for serving as this year’s questioners.
Without the continued efforts of committee organizers, community partners, classroom teachers, and student participants, these wonderful events would not be the successes that they prove to be year after year.
Sincerely,
Leslie Barr Kellar
