Totally ashamed

Dear sir:
At one time, council members were elected for being chosen as good, honourable citizens who were held in high esteem and it was an honour to be chosen.
So, now we go to the hub-bub about the present council wanting more money than they already have. My understanding is they are not employees of the town, but representatives voted in by the people.
In the past, they were considered as the best of the best, but now in my mind, it has taken a complete turnaround.
We voted in good faith for them, not expecting the greed they now show (not all of them, thank God), and it now smells of a dictatorship instead of a democracy.
I am totally ashamed of them, and hope they lose out in their attempts to do what they like regardless of the trusting people who voted them in.
