Dear editor: Like countless others in the area, I pride myself in getting involved in the local political process. Every election, I cast my ballot and then basically don’t think about what happens at council until the next election. Right or wrong, I simply put my trust in the elected […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: On July 1, 2003 during the town’s centennial celebrations, I had the great pleasure of sponsoring the replacement and dedication of the big chair at Pither’s Point Park to my mother and father, Myrtle (Locking) and Dave Muckle, who operated the pavilion there from 1932-1942. Friends were back […]
Dear Mr. Editor: The Northern Action Group (NAG) is in the process of investigating concerns around the “zero tolerance policy” in our local Fort Frances schools. Of real interest to us are incidents that occurred at J.W. Walker School, although we want to hear about concerns at all Fort Frances […]
Dear sir: Re: “Communities In Bloom” The Town of Fort Frances, acting on the request of a team set up by the local horticultural society, and with its financial support, joined the provincial branch of “Communities In Bloom.” “Communities In Bloom” promotes involvement and action by citizens of all ages, […]
Dear sir: We would like to publicly thank all those involved in our town’s Christmas celebrations Nov. 27. We took in Warp 9, the museum, and the parade—and they were all fantastic! Our daughter echoed all of our sentiments by commenting, “All we need now is church in the morning […]
Dear sir: I think most Canadians disagree with U.S. President George W. Bush and his foreign policy. We believe we have been cheated on our lumber and beef exports. In a nutshell, the U.S. government has not been good to us. Locally, however, we have the best of neighbours. In […]
Dear sir: Re the headline “Resident fuming over decoration thieves” (Dec. 2 edition of the Daily Bulletin). When I was a kid growing up in Fort Frances, we didn’t even lock our doors at night. Not that I am saying there was never any theft (I am sure there was), […]
Dear sir: I want everyone to understand why I am opposed to any strategy which would result in private, profit-driven ownership of Rainycrest, or private, profit-driven management of Rainycrest. First, I believe that health care at Rainycrest should be about good care for patients, not about how much profit can […]
Dear editor: There was an article in the Fort Frances Times last Wednesday (Nov. 24) which was headlined “Hunters fined for firing a gun out of a boat.” This article went on to say that two Iowa men were fined $1,500 each for shooting at a moose decoy from a […]
Dear sir: The hunters are in the bush tracking moose. In their offices, Timmins-James Bay New Democrat MPP Gilles Bisson and his NDP colleague, Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton, are trying to shoot straight. Just a few weeks ago, Mr. Bisson was telling the media that the McGuinty government had […]
Dear editor: On Nov. 17, I introduced a Private Member’s Bill in the House of Commons that would see Nov. 11 become a national holiday. All Canadians should be able to observe Nov. 11 as a national day of remembrance. Too often we take our freedom for granted. It is […]
Dear Mike: We have a huge thank you to go out to all of the people who helped us with the 21st-annual regional volleyball tournament held Nov. 27. It was a great success once again, with around 240 participants from 22 teams in the region. We would like to congratulate […]
