Sad times

Dear sir:
Re the headline “Resident fuming over decoration thieves” (Dec. 2 edition of the Daily Bulletin).
When I was a kid growing up in Fort Frances, we didn’t even lock our doors at night. Not that I am saying there was never any theft (I am sure there was), but the theft of Christmas decorations is so petty as to be almost unbelievable.
It happened to me when I lived in Toronto, but I almost expected that.
Yet as I read the news headlines from the Times on-line, it makes me realize the world really has changed when so many big-city crimes are now being committed in the Fort Frances area (for instance, “Man dead after domestic dispute” and “Two cows shot, killed”).
So much for small-town Canada.
