Dear sir:
On July 1, 2003 during the town’s centennial celebrations, I had the great pleasure of sponsoring the replacement and dedication of the big chair at Pither’s Point Park to my mother and father, Myrtle (Locking) and Dave Muckle, who operated the pavilion there from 1932-1942.
Friends were back to the district this past month to launch a book written by one of them (Graham Ducker) about the Morson School. Passing through the Fort, they took time to view the big chair and became interested in the history of its original establishment.
I, too, have been endeavouring to locate details (the chair was established after the years my family were involved at Pither’s Point) but to no avail.
My purpose in writing this letter is to ask for help from the readers of the Times. Do you have memories of the establishing of the original chair? Might you have pictures dating back to the time it was built? May I ask you to look through those old photo albums and should you locate pictures and dates, send same or a copy to me?
I will gladly return any pictures sent and reimburse you for postage.
One of the interested parties is involved in local TV cable channel and the receipt of information could lead to some publicity for our district.
