Dear editor: I have profound concerns about the potential loss of local health services and the chaos in my workplace that will be caused by the Ontario Liberals’ new Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs). The LHINs have the potential to severely restrict local access to services by forcing patients in […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mr. Editor: I have a request of Mr. Ken Boshcoff: First of all, congratulations, Mr. Boshcoff, for your re-election. The people are screaming for accountability in government these days. You are a “public official,” therefore, you must have a sworn/affirmed oath on file that states your duty towards the […]
Dear editor: The economy of Northwestern Ontario relies very heavily on tourism, so I think we should look at how the federal election may affect this. The simple fact is that the vast majority of tourists coming into our area are American. This is why the Liberal tactics in this […]
Dear sir: I was reading the Jan. 12th recap of the all-candidates’ debate in Fort Frances and wanted to respond to Mr. Rafferty’s comments on the passport issue. As opposed to supporting the passport issue, I think it would be much more beneficial to Northwestern Ontario if Mr. Rafferty did […]
Dear Mr. Editor: I would like to extend my congratulations to Fort Frances Coun. Tannis Drysdale, who was named in the December issue of Northern Ontario Business as one of the five top “Movers & Shakers” in Northern Ontario for 2005. She certainly is deserving of this honour, given her […]
Dear editor: The questions I wish to pose publicly to the candidates—Mr. Ken Boshcoff, Mr. David Leskowski, Mr. John Rafferty, and Mr. Russ Aegard—are as follows: 1. In its response to Canada’s report on ending discrimination against women, the United Nations told Canada to step up its measures to combat […]
Dear editor: Happy New Year, everyone! I am renewing my subscription to the Fort Frances Times as truly I would miss receiving it after reading it for more than 60 years! I was raised in the friendly town of Fort Frances, and I visit there at least once a year […]
Dear sir: On behalf of all of us at Rainycrest Home for the Aged here, I would like to say a special thank you to the auxiliary, volunteers, staff, family, and friends of Rainycrest for making Christmas, 2005 a busy and fun holiday for the residents. It was heart-warming to […]
Dear editor: In Craig Brockie’s letter to the editor entitled “Mill Closure: Threat or Opportunity,” which appeared in the Wednesday, Dec. 21 edition of the Fort Frances Times, he refers to Winnipeg losing its NHL team whereas the Edmonton Oilers survived. His question was “What was the difference?” Well, I […]
Dear Mr. Editor: The use of flags to show jurisdictions and contracts has been with mankind for a long time. When you capture the other guy’s flag and put yours up, you have captured the other guy’s territory and put it under the law (Constitution) of your flag. As a […]
Dear sir: Hi, this is “Rapid Robert,” you know, “the old guy with the plaid tam.” I have been approached again and reminded that I’ve not written in the Times for a long time. I have been thinking about the place of my birth, nearly 83 years ago, namely the […]
Dear sir: I would like to thank the Good Samaritan who found my purse before Christmas and brought it to the police station. It was a great Christmas present—and it was much appreciated. Signed, Elizabeth Kapac Fort Frances, Ont.
