Dear editor: Mega accolades to everyone involved in the VALA variety show this past Saturday. What a great performance! I, along with several of my friends, attended the matinee Saturday afternoon at the Townshend Theatre. We thoroughly enjoyed all the entertainment—what a talented group of individuals! The show opened with […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: The Ontario Scott Tournament of Hearts hosted by the Fort Frances Curling Club last week certainly proved that fans do spell success, as seen by the numbers who packed the club throughout the round-robin and then during the playoff matches. Dedicated volunteers pulled in much-needed revenue by selling […]
To the editor: Just a note to talk about a young boy with a big heart, who recently won the Safeway grocery draw. After it was explained to him how it worked, he offered his sister one of the cards. The next thing he wanted to do was to take […]
Dear editor: A heartfelt thanks goes out to Seth Bird, winner of the Safeway grocery draw, who graciously shared a portion of his winnings with me for drawing his name. His thoughtfulness touched my heart. I also would like to take the opportunity to thank the “Community Chest” for their […]
Dear editor: Friends of the Emo Public Library co-hosted a fundraiser on Jan. 27 at the Emo Legion. We drove down from Thunder Bay for this and were delighted to be entertained by the Borderland Community Orchestra, which played a wide variety of melodies and major works (“Phantom of the […]
To the editor: On behalf of the dairy producers of Rainy River District, I would like to thank Al Lowe for his article on dairy cattle in the Jan. 25 issue of the Fort Frances Times. I would like to provide additional information for the public to reflect on about […]
Dear editor: I understand that taxes from cigarettes and alcohol go into a general fund. If all the taxes from cigarettes and alcohol go towards health care, we would have a surplus in our health care system. (Signed), Thomas Laprade Thunder Bay, Ont.
Dear Mr. Editor: Thank you, Mr. Boshcoff, for submitting your Member of Parliament oath to be printed. This writer has the highest respect for you as another human being! Everyone may read in your oath that your allegiance/obligation is to “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second”! Did she vote for […]
Dear editor: The 2005 “Mitts For Kids” campaign was another success. We filled 200 Christmas hampers for the local Salvation Army, and since there were mitts left over, several schools in the Fort Frances area, as well as Devlin, received “mitt kits.” I personally would like to take this time […]
Dear sir: Town council has been very quiet on issues surrounding the Fort Frances Clinic purchase and the move to a Family Health Team concept of medical care. Where is council on this subject? We know the Sault Ste. Marie-based GHA dropped out because they believed (as we did) that […]
Dear sir: Let me begin by extending our best wishes to our friends, supporters, and their families during 2006. As you know, 2005 has been an extraordinary year. Yet despite the many tragedies the world has seen, Canadians have responded with overwhelming generosity. While images from the tsunami, hurricanes, earthquakes, […]
Dear sir: I’m sure nobody appreciates it when the snowplow goes by and fills in the end of their driveway. Living here, this is something we have to accept if we want our roads clean and although I don’t like it, I have no problem doing my share to keep […]
