Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Tracy Roen Dear editor: I am writing with huge concerns for the safety of our children. Coming home from work last Wednesday, I witnessed a small girl, about seven years of age, on the five-foot snowbank walking home on Keating Avenue. She struggled as her friend followed her and quick […]
Brett Lessard Dear editor: On the evening of Jan. 4, I was travelling on Highway 11 to my home in Bears Pass, east of Fort Frances, around 8 p.m. As I rounded a significant right-hand curve, about one km east of Highway 502, my vehicle suddenly died and came to […]
Delores Romyn Dear editor: I am doing a follow-up on the letter which appeared in the Dec. 29 edition of the Times about the Stratton Centennial history book. I was on the Stratton Centennial Committee and did my job. The person on the history book did not do theirs. Everyone’s […]
Coun. Ken Perry Dear editor: I must agree with Christine Hampton. The streets and sidewalks in the downtown area need some attention. So does the 50 or so other kilometres of roadway in town and the more than 40 km of associated sidewalks that are not in the downtown core. […]
Dorothy Hayes Dear editor: I would like to thank the person who retrieved my black, multi-coloured wallet from the Safeway parking lot on the morning of Dec. 29 with my valuables still inside. Not a lot of money but most important, my Safeway card and Air Miles card, which I […]
Christine Hampton Dear editor: Please accept this as an open letter to the Town of Fort Frances. During the Christmas holidays, I visited the downtown on a number of occasions but was very disappointed with the town’s snow removal efforts. Although Scott Street had lots of available parking, it was […]
Kathy Cederwall Dear editor: In August, 2003, I attended Stratton’s centennial. It was a celebration that I remember and cherish. As part of the event, the Stratton Centennial Committee was compiling information from community members and former residents for a history book. A request for a $30 down payment was […]
Dear editor: The “Operation Christmas Child” collection centre is happy to announce the initiative was a success in the Fort Frances/Rainy River area again in 2010! We gave out more than 600 cartons. Then on Nov. 27, our district sent a total of 458 boxes to the Kitchener collection centre […]
Norma D. Pattison Dear editor: I first met “Ernie” about 12 years ago. In the entrance of Emo hospital, I saw the door push open and a big black-and-white cat, quite tall and lanky. Mouth open, he was roaring at the top of his lungs. He came on bouncy front […]
Norm Guenette Dear sir: Recently I was afforded the opportunity to bring a class from Fort Frances High School to La Verendrye Hospital for an all-day presentation. Organized and staged by the local paramedics, we were there to participate in what is called the P.A.R.T.Y. program. I was in as […]
Margaret Ann Hudson Dear editor: Just thinking back to the Christmas party at Rainycrest on Friday afternoon–and what a great time it was! Rainycrest Auxiliary members assembled around 12:30 p.m., all donning Santa hats of some kind or another. The Activation staff then got all the chairs in place and […]
