Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Jim Sheppard Dear editor: The Fort Frances Scott Street Show and Shine will not take place this year. Due to the ongoing resistance, lack of co-operation, increased regulations, and frustrations of dealing with the Fort Frances town hall, the International Early Iron Car Club will be cruising west down Highway […]
Rosanne Farmer Dear Mike: The Dance Fire Memorial Committee would like to thank those individuals who helped make the first run of our “Dance is on Fire” book such a great success. After many comments and requests, we are considering a second run of our book. We are asking that […]
Joel Haugland Dear editor: Notwithstanding rough-and-tumble NHL games, hockey is an outstanding, entertaining, and enjoyable sport. On the other hand, officials and flamboyant, self-aggrandizing promoters, claiming that “roughing is part of the game” and that players are “heroes,” strips NHL games from the realm of sports. Sports are characterized by […]
Jackie McCormick Dear editor: I am a concerned parent and community member who is strongly opposed the Rainy River District School Board transportation policy. My issues with the board and this policy are ongoing, and I am writing to provide an update of the status of the policy and to […]
John Kotnik Dear editor: The Fort Frances Lakers of the SIJHL have a home in Fort Frances and the district. The team’s existence evolved out of a short window of opportunity when some courageous and passionate fans organized themselves into a community-owned, not-for-profit hockey club. The Fort Frances Lakers’ board […]
Betty Kuitunen Dear editor: I am writing about medical marijuana use by those who are trying to overcome the side effects of chemo. Anybody who knows anything about cancer realizes the side effects that chemo brings on—weight loss, loss of appetite, mouth sores, nausea, vomitting, and night sweats. This is […]
The Shypit Family – Jody, Carrie, Halle, and Jeremy To the editor: Words alone cannot express how deeply grateful we are for all the loving support given to our family over the past few weeks. One cannot imagine the feeling of losing your entire life’s history in just a matter […]
Supt. Ronald S. van Straalen, Regional Commander, OPP North West Region Dear editor: Thank you for the opportunity to provide context to the March 9 letter to the editor, headlined “You decide,” and correct the record. Firstly, let me say the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) truly understands and appreciates the […]
Morris and Cindy Judson Dear editor: Shortly after midnight on Friday, Feb. 25, we were awakened by persistent knocking on the front door of our home. We were shocked to find OPP officer Christopher Spence at the door to inform us what we then could see in the distance. A […]
George and Shirley Nault Dear editor: Thank you, David Kircher! You are a breath of fresh air in this stagnant so-called democracy that feels the taxpayer is not entitled to know what is being done with our taxes. Thank goodness you are willing to stand up for us. It is […]
Paul Soucy Dear editor: Beware medical marijuana card-holders! Det. Cst. Landgraff of the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau is out to get you! Early on the morning of Thursday, Feb 24, Landgraff and his posse of cowboys served a search warrant on a legal medical marijuana possession/production card-holder in La […]
