Don Bragg Dear editor: I am writing in support of the “Inform public” letter in the Feb. 16 edition of the Times. As a taxpayer of the Rainy River District School Board, a big thank you to Dave Kircher, Walter Horban, and others for attempting to shed more light on […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Herb Govier Dear editor: In December, a court ruling found the Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association not guilty of any wrongdoing in the dismissal of former employee Russell Richards. In a later ruling, the association was awarded $40,000 in legal costs. Rather than accept this, and put this issue to rest […]
Walter Horban Dear editor: Last Thursday (Feb. 17), CBC Radio reporter Shane Judge spoke with Dan Belluz, chair of the previous Rainy River District School Board, and with current chair Michael Lewis. Mr. Judge was curious about the action of the old board in passing a resolution behind closed doors […]
Travis E. Showalter Dear editor: Even though Team Nordin, from the Stratton Curling Club, managed to finish in 10th place in the 2011 provincials men’s curling playdowns, which were at the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay, our second trip there was a learning experience none of us will […]
Ben and Donna Wiersema Dear editor: This letter is to send a special thank you to our local fire and police departments who went above and beyond. At about 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 27, we received a phone call to inform us that our store (Kitchen & Bath Plus) was […]
Walter Horban Dear editor, The taxpayers of Fort Frances deserve to be informed of decisions made by the trustees of the board of education. Why haven’t we been informed of how it was possible for hundreds of thousands of dollars to [go missing] over a period of [several] years without […]
Alexander Lee Forbes Dear editor: My name is Alexander Lee Forbes (age 13). I live on the north side of the train tracks and I go to school at Robert Moore. Although there are buses available, I like to walk and so do some of my friends and neighbours because […]
Monique Bekesi Dear editor: My dogs are an extension of my family. And I know many people who would agree and categorize their pets as their family, as well. So when my eight-pound morkie-poo (Couper) jumped the fence and was hit by a vehicle on the highway, I was mortified. […]
Frank and Stacy Fraser Dear editor: Just wanted to say a big “thank you” to the management and crew at our Public Works department for doing such a wonderful job keeping our streets clear of snow and removing the “huge’ snowbanks this winter. It can be a daunting task what […]
Lori McLean Dear editor: Recently I received the unfortunate news from two friends regarding the accidental loss of their pets. These deaths occurred as a result of a motor vehicle hitting them. As a pet owner, advocate, and lover, I am aware of the consequences that may happen when our […]
Tyler J. Moffitt Dear editor: As 2011 arrived, the S.A.F.E. Baby program (Smoke Alarms For Every Baby) became 12 years old here in Rainy River District. It’s apparent that this project is—and always will be—dear to many people’s hearts. The important message that is being delivered to parents is that […]
Dear editor: As Ukrainian music blared out amongst the hallways at Rainycrest on Jan. 7, a few people even got up and tried their hand at Ukrainian dancing. If you were anywhere near Rainycrest that Friday afternoon, these are some of the sights you may have seen and sounds you […]
