Lynn Richardson Dear editor: Over the past few years, the town has lost several historical buildings—the high school, Robert Moore, and other schools, and we don’t know about the old library. Now the Rainy Lake Hotel seems likely to be demolished. If this is so, then it simply could be […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Gloria Short Dear editor: Very recently we had the opportunity to use the Métis Hall for a spiritual gathering in support for Howard John Brown and family. We were very impressed with the accommodations and the way people came together to make this event a success. (Signed), Gloria Short
Donna Latimer Dear editor: I would like to thank the members of the La Vallee Township volunteer firefighters who responded to our call on Saturday, Nov. 5. A very large hay marsh on the La Vallee River south of our home caught fire and at first we adopted a wait-and-see […]
Anna McNay Dear editor: The Associates of Ste. Marguerite d’Youville held another successful “coat drive” thanks to the generous people who brought in lots of good coats. Thanks to the town for the use of the East End Hall, and to Richard at McTaggart’s for the use of the coat […]
Zzorhn “Joe” Carlson Dear editor: Once again, Fort Frances is plagued with vandalism! On Nov. 7 at 11:20 p.m., someone took the liberty of throwing rocks through three of the front windows of my house! They also attempted to break in, as evidenced by a broken screen on the front […]
Nestor Baranyk Dear editor: Please accept this open letter to federal NDP leader Nycole Turmel: I am sitting here in consternation and disbelief trying to discern why you have punished two Northwestern Ontario MPs for voting in support of the government’s bill to end the gun registry. You may remember […]
Dana Elders Dear editor: I would like to take this opportunity to give a big thank you to OPSEU Local 711 in Fort Frances. Every year they award $500 to a student entering or returning to post-secondary education. I am now in my third year of university and was very […]
W. Heinrich Dear editor: I did not read [MP John] Rafferty’s column regarding the CBC but only [Jason] McQuaker’s “Grab a hammer” response in last week’s paper. The federal government budget corresponds to spending about $10,000 per person per year. I hope McQuaker’s soul is not tortured by how the […]
Norbert Bragg Dear editor: I would just like to say work well done to Yvonne and Ethel and whoever else may have helped water and maintain the flower beds at the Devlin cenotaph this past dry summer. It certainly took a lot of watering. On another note, Yvonne, Lois, and […]
Joel Haugland Dear editor: The new food and beverage policy for Ontario schools is a step in the right direction to promote healthier citizens, but there’s a lot more to do than to prepare a policy. Parents and care-givers of children must know what to do to start enforcing the […]
Jason McQuaker Dear editor, I am writing this letter in response to John Rafferty’s column last week. I do not normally, if ever, read his column but a friend pointed it out to me knowing my love of tax dollars and how they are spent. I find it ironic that […]
Mary Jane Pearson Dear editor: On behalf of the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary, I would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to our fall tea. This would not have been possible without the willingness of the membership to volunteer their time and resources (the fancy sandwiches and baking […]
