Cornelia Gerber-Nydegger Dear editor: I am writing in response to Kathryn Pierroz’s letter to the editor printed in the Jan. 11 edition of the Times. As a reminder to all of us, it is written: “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Kathryn Pierroz Dear editor: I am writing in response to Ms. Batiuk’s letter printed on Dec. 29. Theatre, like all great art forms, is a matter of personal taste. If you do not have a liking for a certain piece of art, you have the option to not view it […]
Cliff Huber Dear editor: This is a request for letters or photos that would relate to Bill Selman playing hockey or coaching in Fort Frances and later in the U.S. We ask your readers to pass on any information that will help Bill be inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports […]
Betty Gallow Dear editor: I am writing this letter to publicly acknowledge the assistance provided to me when I slipped and fell outside Knox United Church on Dec. 27. Debbie Jean found me after I had slipped, and showed compassion and kindness when she obtained medical assistance for me. Debbie […]
Betty Batiuk Dear editor: I went to the recent production of “Rita Joe” at the Townshend Theatre on the Friday night. The acting was well done and the message was clear. But I was appalled, as a Christian, about all the swearing and God and Jesus’ name being taken in […]
David Fontana Dear editor: I am writing this letter to say thank you to the people in Fort Frances and surrounding communities, in particular those who are volunteers. Words alone cannot express to you how much the residents here at Rainycrest appreciate those people who volunteer their time to come […]
Will Labovitch Dear editor: I want to thank the Fort Frances Times personally for my previous letters. But while the year of chaotic Canadian elections finally is over, the American election year is just beginning and there are two Minnesota politicians to keep an eye on. Chip Cravaack is the […]
Mary Croswell Dear editor: What is good sportsmanship? Good sportsmanship is when teammates, opponents, coaches, parents, and officials treat each other with respect. Displaying good sportsmanship isn’t always easy; it can be tough to congratulate the opposing team after losing a close or important game. Our local arenas are buzzing […]
Irene Gerula Dear editor: Hunting season finally is over and I read (and hear) there are a lot of people who feel the same way I do. Imagine seven whole weeks of hunting and not even one week of open season on hunters who prowl around in the fields with […]
Nick Wihnan Dear editor: I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and to thank this community, mayor, and council for bestowing the title of Citizen of the Year upon me. I am forever grateful and humbled by this very special honour. I […]
Steve Latimer Dear editor: I can’t stop smiling after reading “Here’s why we shoot deer in the wild” in last week’s Times. That was a well-written, entertaining, and humorous story. The author, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a very talented writer and can certainly write a story that draws […]
Pat Dakin Dear editor: St. Mary’s Church on Sunday was the setting for “Mary, Did You Know?”—a most uplifting cantata. Three soloists opened the show and put everyone into the Christmas spirit, and opened my hear and mind for the cantata which followed. In spite of a request to refrain […]
